Hi I just wanted to pass it on that I successfully used a bailcast universal cv split boot on front inner cv joint on discovery 3 , if your in a spot and don't fancy fighting with the hub it can work on either boot , take off the wheel and also jack the axle making the cv boot straight, remove old clips, big end has a hard to find join you prize open with screwdriver, keep the large end of old boot with the lock in it and as far out as end of first ring , slide off and cut the rest off as you can turn it , sort the grease and pop it back on , clean it and clean the shaft , only glue small end first and then the rest of uni boot it works better, when its set the uni split boot fits perfectly over the old boot end , carefully push in all way round , I used Halfords 90/120 mm hoseclip instead of one supplied , keeping it straight all the way round and I slowly tightened and once the tightening screw gives resistance stop , give it one or two more turns max and leave it , overtighten and it will pop off , just slice tip of very end of small shaft side and it fits perfectly, any clip will do that end .I've Done a few miles and so far so good, hope it helps someone needing quick cheap fix .

I've done that job on cars successfully using suitably sized zip ties instead of hose clips.

I've used them a couple of times, worked fine the MOT, failed before the next MOT.
I only fit genuine LR gaiters to LRs now.
Yes I believe they don't last very long, for now though I'm happy with a cheap fix until the good weather but take your point

Hi it's not really about the price of the landrover boot , I dont think anybody would run a discovery 3 to save money , I myself will spend the time later in summer and put a genuine one on but I posted because there must be people out there who may need a quick fix after failing a test or just cant do it properly for now for whatever reason , for some people removing hub etc is not a job they can tackle and this fix could get them out , but overall you're right

Many thks and indeed a great tip to get u out of trouble until ur able to fit a GKN later on

must confess also used zip ties but then found the single ear clamps better , particularly the adjustable ones where u can get a good clamp down force on the boot preventing it from coming off

Thks again

Hi you're dead right it's all about having good adjustment on the clamp on the big end , tight but don't go crazy the way to go
