So what is the verdict of K2 compared to normal Cellulose paint. Which is the easiest to use and which resist scratches from bushes etc.
Think I will start a new thread on this topic as its one I will be interested in as I intend to do mine in the spring.

30 defects on the yellow Land Rover 110 Station Wagon after the crash, including a failing hand brake, worn rear brake drums and shoes, loose steering wheel and mismatched calipers.

Apart from the "loose steering wheel" the rest looks like "well its a land rover" !

Presumably the "30 defects" are more serious , but the rest of it sounds like something that could happen to anybody, god forbid !

As regards the rear crossmember, the mot tester is the judge, isnt he ?

This thread was to show what I did in one morning not a finished project. I did what I needed to do to get it through its mot I have never said it was finished or have said im going to tow anything with it. Now it has passed!! I will work on reinforcing it so I can tow. So please understand this before you start slating the work I did.

At least you had the balls to tackle this instead of paying a gararge to do it and although the welds dont look too pretty, they can be cleaned up and reinforced and practice makes perfect. And you now have a years ticket. Well done for having a go.

Well done for having a go. I bottled out and took mine to a professional to get it done and a good job he did.
Practice makes perfection. If it does come off as these guys assume at least you will know how to weld it back on again.
Mine doesn't have any strengtheners on the weld but having said that the tow bar does have supports which bolt onto the chassis behind the weld.
Remember the original rear cross member was only 2mm in thickness. Going for a 3mm was 50% stronger. Now I have seen some cross members at 6mm. I think some people are trying to convert theirs into tanks.

6mm is to allow it to be a open channel and not collect water and to absorb a few more joules in a accident to give rear bench occupants a chance, though it still bends before the chassis in a accident.
Ps the 3 mm cross member and extensions are weaker than standard , as standard chassis rails are double skinned to around 4.5mm
