It's been a while since I last posted but thought I should let everyone know about the front fog lights I have just fitted.

What I thought would take roughly 2 hours ended up taking 8!

It took 2 hours just to get the front bumper off, ruined several metal drill bits, in the end I had to get the angle grinder out and chop all the tops of the screws (on the sides of the bumper) off.

The kit that I had bought from fleabay was a decent kit, which came with riv nuts. I drilled the correct sized holes in the metal bumper and hammered in the riv nuts (it was a nice tight fit).

I then began to tighten the 1st nut, after a short while the rivnut lost grip and started to turn. Great! I now have a bolt sticking up out of my bumper and a riv nut that wont grip. I was struggling to get the nut and bolt out of the hole and in a moment of frustration and put a spanner under the bolt and whacked it with a hammer, very very hard.

The rivnut and bolt did not move but the spanner went flying, I don't know how high it went up in the air but it was in the air for a while, it then came down and landed on my dads head (and nearly knocked him out) and then rebouneded across to the other side of the road.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

DO NOT PUT A SPANNER UNDER A BOLT AND HIT IT WITHOUT HOLDING THE SPANNER!!

anyway, as the next 2 rivnuts did the same, so I had to get them out too.

Unsure of what to do, I decided to get 4 long nuts and bolts and fix the fog light brackets to the bumper. Finally, I had the brackets bolted in nice and tight.

Then, the bumper wouldn't fit back on because the bolts stuck out at the bottom of the bumper by half and inch, so I had to cut 4 holes out of the bumper to slot over the bolts :s

Then came the wiring, but that's another story.

Anyhoooo, after 8 hours, lots of swearing, a sore dads head, a hacked bumper and a broken toolbox, I finally have the spot lights fitted and working on my hippo.. WAHOOO :)

Use a nut and bolt with two spanners to fit rivnuts......

Wind nut onto bolt, wind bolt into rivnut, put in hole, hold bolt with one spanner, wind nut down bolt with second spanner, this has the effect of pulling the rivnut up tight, then undo the bolt and remove nut from it.

Voila - rivnut fitted
