I'm new to car mechanics but trying to get stuck in so bear with me...
I've had my 1.8 Freelander 51 plate back from the garage for 1 week now following early signs of head gasket failure - It was loosing coolant via the water pump. It now seems to run very well but the coolant is full of sooty bits - I plan to use a cleaning agent, then flush out the rad and engine.
The garage fitted a BGA Head Gasket kit, BGA Head Bolts, new water pump, new sensor, new housing, new timing belt. The head was skimmed and pressure tested. It already has the modified thermostat placement since it is 51 plate.
I've only just read about HG failure on the K-series engine and didn't know about it when I bought the Freelander, otherwise I would have specified the LR MLS Gasket and the LR Oil Rail when the work was done.
My concern is that the new Oil Rail Ladder (LCN000140L) was not fitted. Should I fit this myself?
Is it just a case of removing the exhaust front pipe and then the sump, fitting the new rail then refitting a new sump gasket, sealing then refitting the sump?
Or do the head bolts also secure the Oil Rail making replacement more complicated?
Any advice would be very appreciated.
Thank you!
Tommy
