Hi,

Just joined the club, bought my '52 Freelander Td4 last week, sure I will be making enquiries in the future ! :)

Welcome Danimal. The TD4 is by far the best Freelander you could have got.
You going to take her off road? They're very capable and good fun :)

Definately !

Found a couple of tracks at the weekend, hopefully find a club round Plymouth which do a couple of days out etc..

Looks good, and nice choice of tyres.

BF Goodrich, I understand, recommend that BFG ATs are inflated to 6psi more than the pressures recommended by LR. I run our BFGs at around 36psi and no signs of overinflation wear yet.

Cheers

I too have recently bought a TD4 Freelander and I love it. Went away to Lincolnshire in it this weekend and it was great. Quiet, comfortable and economical (40mpg!). Even my wife likes it!

Only downer was some git smacking their door against it in a car park and taking a lump of paint of the driver's door :( Had a look on eBay for door rubbing strips but they seem to go for about £100 (genuine)!! Anyone know where to get cheaper ones??

Cheers

Rog

Thanks for the warm welcome.

After reading a few posts I may also have a VCU fault or do I??

Put some marks on the VCU went for a drive and the line on the prop shaft from the engine side has moved. I also put 3 lines on the 2 halves of the VCU and the rear prop shaft, these have all stayed in line

When I tested the car I tried the lock to lock back and forth test and all seemed fine - moved on tickover with no revs but when I got it home I notice that it feels slugish reversing and pulling off my drive - initially put this down to the Big tyres and not having a 4x4 before!

Apart from that all is fine - not sure on the fuel ecomomy yet but I filled up and have done 75 miles and the needle has not reached the full marker on the gauge yet.

Cheers,

My old V6 automatic used to feel sluggish when reversing on full lock. It's normal, don't worry.
Can't comment on the VCU problems, mine never suffered those problems.

your vcu is ok by the sounds of it.(the two halfs of the vcu do not move independently).and as for the lock to lock test, all freelanders do it so don't think you need to worry. nice freelander by the way, looks cool with those tyres:)

How much can you get those BFG All Terrain tyres for? They look great! My TD4 will need tyres in the next couple of months and fancy some of those. Are they noisy and do they wear well?

Cheers

They came with the car so not sure how they wear as for noise we testdrove a 55 sport and a 03 gs and only noticed a slight noise increase than the sport running on 18's. Just turn the radio up!
As for cost Blackcircles.com do them for about £85 each.
