I think my car which is good condition hasn't been properly serviced for a long time, I suspect the owner took it to a freindly garage where the basic service was performed but I doubt they were a specialist.

Now I want the most thorough service and check up I can get so that I can know more about the car and not just an oil change etc.

Should I take it to Land Rover just the once or do you think a 4x4 specialist can perform what I want.

I live in Stockport and ther are a couple of 4x4 specialists nearby as well as a landrover garage.

p.s Yes I know Landrover are very expensive but are they more thorough?

An Independant Land Rover specialist is the way to go. They will be far more knowledgeable, thorough and most importantly much cheaper than a main stealer, especially if its a P38, most techies at a main dealer won't even have seen a P38 let alone worked on one!!

make sure and get the pollen filters done. Dont think they was ever done on mine. Was bloody disgusting when i changed them.

As you live in Stockport,as i do, you must be referring to Guy Salmon which in my humble opinion are the biggest shower of t*ats in the area,go independent every time there's a few in the area including landranger services. But to be honest do it yourself that way you'll learn more about your car and save a fortune on labour costs and with the money you save you can put it towards your own "p38 fixing things in the future fund"

Cheers

There is also Lee Autos as well and another 4x4 specialist near Salmons. I dont mind getting my hands dirty but as it will be the first service I want someone who knows the P38 inside and out and to find all the little things that need sorting out as well as a general service. Once I am on top on this I cna take my time learning about it.

Have you had any dealings with Land Ranger? Would you recomend them?

from south of stockport meself, have used landranger for parts but not service as i do that meself. best to go round them all and talk to them and find out exactly what they do on a service then pick one and see if you're happy with the result if not don't use them again:D

I use landranger for parts, because i can do most things on my rangie, but i've heard good reports for both lee autos and landranger, with regard to the other indy i think he's more land rover "series" specialist but cant be sure.Best thing to do is phone or visit them all and get prices to compare

Gratch you must be able to type faster than me but atleast we've the same train of thought

I took mine to Lee Autos to ahve the coolant checked for any exhaust gases in it. I wanted to be sure that there was no evidence of slipped liner as per the horror stories on the internet. He put something in the coolant which should change colour if there was CO2. The result was negative which was good. They seem decent guys.
