Does anyone have experience of making a First Registration for a used vehicle in France?

I'd like to know if there is a French equivalent of https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...and-registration-of-a-used-motor-vehicle-v555 ??

My Dad lives in France and is unclear about the process. He's also easily put off by paperwork! :) He's got a Landy to restore out there with no papers. We've got the BMHI cert and military records for it by its chassis number. We can't register here as it's in France and likely to stay there and he has no UK address himself. And DVLA don't want it at my address in his name unless he "lives" there. He's close to chucking his spanners because he thinks he can't register it there!? There must be a way to register a motor with no current papers in France?

Has the vehicle ever been reg in uk? in your Dad's name?..
V55 asks for non-UK docs or why uk docs are missing...
If it has been reg in uk V55 is not the correct form..iirc

It's only ever been registered in the UK. DVLA have suggested we V55 in my name at my address, and either bring it back or Permanent Export it. The longer story here is some ID swapping in the past where someone wanted Tax Exempt. When we got the vehicle we wanted to correct everything and so got BMHI and Military Records to back us up and get a new age appropriate reg assigned.

Register it in your name as a lost V5 is not the same as a first reg...the next problem you have is length of ownership at address your exporting from.. it has to be 6mths in your name...then you can't reg it in France unless you have fiscal details...your Dad would have to have owned it for 6mths in uk with proof of address e.g. utility bills to reg it in France...
I would speak to an agent I did that for my 101 which I bought here in Portugal 2yrs ago with an export cert 15yrs out of date and not in my name, agent has obtained all paperwork,COC matriculation inspection and had it mot just need 1 more bit of paper from customs to release it from possible impound due to export cert out of date total cost to agent 1300€ could probably get away with driving it as can now insure it and local plod won't know about cert but if customs do road check would be a large fine and impou nd.
