Hi All

Just acquired a 200tdi 3dr disco and going to do a service. Other than engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air cleaner, is there anything else I should do.

What's the correct engine oil to use?

I dont know the history of the vehicle and have no handbook (hence rudimentary questions).

Also, does anyone have a PDF of the owners handbook so I can have a read thru it? I've owned a RR classic and series 3 before, but the heater controls and one or two other things are confusing me (possibly broken).

Thanks

PS I did a search using the google custom search and didnt get very far. is there compatibility issues with Firefox or am i missing something? Is there a wiki on this site?

would recomend cam belt and tensioner kit, or you will kill the engine.

also transfer box need 5ltr of ep80/90 gear oil ( you will have a bit left over) you dont need any oher tools but a 1/2" drive rachet and a 17mm scoket, 1/2" drive will open the refill bung.

same for the diff's they take over 1.5ltr each again you will only need the 1/2" drive rachet to open the drain and refill.

to refill i would recomend a presirised garden sprayer as makes filling easier than any other tool i just use the system and hose.

swivle's check if grease if so leave alone if no damage to seals, if gear oil drain and refill with one shot grease, if swivle seals are o.k. if not replace the seals

the gear box either manual or auto use's atf oil dexron II grade, manual uses just under 5 ltr and auto uses just under 10ltr, again flush out the gear oil and use the sprayer.

brakes change the fluid and check pads and disc's replace if needed.

anti freeze i would recomend a drain, flush and fill with new dont know the reqirements off the top of my head.

turbo i would recomend you fush the inerecooler out with acitone so im told, and check the pipes and intake are clean if not flush with acitone as well, also change the air filter.

i think that the important stuff also dont know if 200 tdi has a water trap on the fule line behind the fule tank on the chassis rail somewhere but would recomend drain that as well.

fule filter make sure the manual primer works on the fule lift pump before you change it if not get a new one of them as well.

i hope this all helps cheers baz

as for the PDF file i have seen a rave manual listed on ear somewhere cant remember where at the moment.

and im being honist when i say the manual gearbox takes atf dexronII.

i dont think i missed anything, if i have someone will point it out

Before you drain the diffs, make sure you can open the filler bungs .. ;)

I'd also get a grease gun, Castrol LM grease and 'do' the points on the props and UJ's. Check the battery connections, indeed I always remove, clean, refit and cover with Vaseline. Get a can of WD40 or similar spray lube and spray the (especially rear) mechanical parts of the door lock mechanisms. Take the breathers off the axles, and gearboxes, if it has them, and blow through the tubes with an airline if blocked and replace.

Sounds a bit daft, and I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but check all the light bulbs and fuses and get replacements and spares ... ;)

I'd also take the spare wheel cover off and check the spare .. and if you have alloy wheels and the spare is steel, get a couple of extra steel wheel nuts ... Alloy wheel nuts won't work properly with steel wheels.

thank-you. boy i have my work cut out!

never mind, has to be done.

are you 100% sure the manual box takes auto transmission fluid???

You've been given some slightly inaccurate information:

1. Engine oil 10w-40 or 15w-40 or 50 - capacity 5.7 ltrs or 6.65ltrs inc new filter

2. Main gearbox - ATF Dexron11 or 111 - capacity 2.7 ltrs

3. Transfer box - EP 80/90 - capacity 2.3ltrs

4. Axles - EP 80/90 - capacity each axle 1.70ltrs

Hope that helps

Dave
