Evening all. Well, it's now been a few days since we collected our 2005 FL1 HSE TD4 and I must admit, despite all the horror stories, we're pretty damn happy with it. We've only covered about 120 miles in it but it seems to start, go, turn and stop as it was intended.
If I'm honest I'm still pretty worried about the whole VCU / IRD issues that these things suffer with. I am pretty obsessed with how tight it feels when reversing round on full lock, admittedly it does sort of bind and feel a little tight but it does roll first and it also can be moved easily using just the engines idle speed and clutch control so I'm hoping its had a VCU and all is well (there are absolutely no noises or juddering etc when driving). It has got full history and has just done 80,000 miles so I'm intending to get it into a local Land Rover specialist over the next few weeks to get it checked over as it has come with a 15 months parts and labour premium warranty supplied by 'auto guard warranties'. I fully intend to at least attempt to get some money out of them for something however if all else fails I am (well, was) a level 3 qualified technician so sure I can find my way around it if it comes down to it. Thinking just try and get a new VCU done under the warranty anyway as tbh, that's the only thing that concerns me although I may well be being over paranoid about it all.
Anyway, luckily on Saturday when we collected the car I popped to my brothers who had a proper ice slop round the back of his flat car park which no one has managed to get up since the big freeze... I'm pleased to say our lil landy went up with ease (another sign the VCU is ok maybe?) and descending it using the magic that is that little yellow switch was absolutely brilliant.
I am getting a beeping noise when unlocking all the doors from the fob which stops once we get in however the manual says this is due to low batteries in the fob which I'll do this week. The beige heated leather is absolutely great even on these cold mornings and the heated front screen is a right bonus (still can't figure out why so few manufacturers fit heated front screens).
Right, not going to go on anymore but just thought into would be nice to share a positive experience about the lil landy as opposed to all the doom and gloom that constantly graces these pages (I'm sure the doom and gloom will inevitably come sooner or later).
Thought I'd add a little pic of it anyway because yes, I am that happy with it.
