One old axle, two new springs, four u-bolts, eight nuts. How hard can it be? Three u-bolts 7/16", eight nuts 7/16", one u-bolt 10mm. Can I find a couple of 10mm nylocks in me toolbox? Can I buggery!
Sorry, I just needed to have a moan at someone. Thanks for listening.

If only I had a fasteners supplier nearby! It's only two nuts, won't break the bank and I can make it carbon neutral by going to the pet shop next door.

and buy a horse to ride home???

Surely screwfix - or the cheaper alternative (ToolStation) is the better option then you will have some for next time?...

Last time I did that, I found one of those M10 nuts was seized, so I put a pipe on the end of the breaker bar to get some more leverage. The U-bolt sheared and the pipe ended up making violent contact with my forehead!

Got it sorted in the end - went back to MM where I got the u-bolts from and they sorted me out with the minimum of fuss. (I pass by their front door fairly often) Looks like a coarse/fine 7/16 confusion but I've got the right nuts now. Oh to live near a Screwfix! My nearest is about 20 miles away and a bit far to go for a nut or two. I didn't bother trying to undo the old u-bolt nuts 'cos I've had 'em shear on me before so I applied an angle grinder and bought some new ones. Thanks for all your sympathy - as I slowly rebuild my old s3 onto its new chassis I'll probably need it again.
