as the sparkplugs need to conduct a lot of electricle charge, over 20,000 volts, whoa!!!!!, throught them but remain insulated from the cylinder head you need a plug capable of these two contridictory conditions. So you need a plug with good conductivity through the electrode, this is the part that runs through the middle and is surrounded by a superb insulating material. when it comes to the spark the electricity can travel through a vacumm easier that it can travel through air. now as your cylinder is at max compression when the spark has to occurr this makes it relativly difficult for it to jump the plug cap and produce that much needed spark. which is why the voltage is so high. now in a diesel the compression ratio is much higher than in a petrol engine so the spark plug has to cope with much denser air; therefore you really need a fine outstanding plug such as NGK or MFI plugs.

if only they made bread in the same bags as they used to... you could 'av 8 of them little bread bag closing plastic fings and number 'em 1 to 8 and stick 'em on yer leads. Then you would have loads of bread to eat as well as knowing which ones your leads were...

right, if you need to replace your plug leads correctly remove no 1 plug, using a socket on crankshaft pulley turn engine until no1 piston is at the top of cylinder on compression stroke best way to tell this to block plug hole with a finger or thumb and feel the pressure as you turn engine over when you have done this and you know it is at top, remove distributor cap and take note of which lead it is pointing to that will give you number one lead then it is a simple matter of following the firing order as given prevouslyfollowing the direction of rotatation of rotor arm either clockwise or anti-clockwise as i have a diesel i am not sure which direction it will run but crank the engine and you will find out. whether the plugs are good quality or not it should still fire up. hope this helps.
