hi,ive been told today that i need to replace my fuel injection pump for my 98' dse
i'm trying to find 2nd hand pumps and was wondering what other vehicles uses this pump and are they compatible with my car? i thought the bigger search i do,the more choice i will have, also what should i be looking at labour wise, its at a well respected indy at the moment, cheers guys.

Omega and some BMW, flange size is different on some and all will need the top with the electronics changed.

What is supposed to be wrong with the FIP? They rarely fail, have you seen the live data printouts from the FIP, if not how did they diagnose a FIP problem?

Thanks for the reply,I'm assuming it was on diagnostics but i am speaking to him tomorow,It's been down(slightly) on power and i spotted a fuel leak at the fip,I know it has been on diagnostics,I'll update tomorow, thanks again.

As Saint V8 said, fuel leak is a couple of quids worth of gaskets, down on power MAP sensor, or the pipe leading to it, in tank pump not delivering, or EGR MAF. Almost certainly not the FIP. They are bull****ting, change the most expensive bit first.

Just search through this forum and you will see just how common the FIP seals leaking is! Also just how easy they are to replace

Unless the pump has fuel flow or quantity problems. Engine stalls for no apparent reason. MIL lamp comes on with overrun combined with stalling. Which are all electrical control problems, there is nothing you can do about those without changing the pump electrics. Leak is a simple job to fix. Power loss will be likely MAP sensor as others have said. Having seals done, pump re-timed and looking at MAP sensor maybe all you need. Flushing intercooler can also give good results.

Thanks everyone,I've just spoke to him and was told its the fuel regulator(?) in the pump that's had it,think I'm going to pick it up and have a proper look myself,I only sent in there on a whim!

just picked the car up and was told it is the fuel quantity actuator that is at fault (from diagnostics)does that mean i have to replace the pump as he is suggesting or can i get this part replaced/repaired at a pump specialist and would that be the most economical way to go? i do trust the man and im sure he wouldnt rip me off, also is the leak relevent to this problem? Thanks for your time.

Wammers is your man, but to me, if you can drive it, it sounds unlikely that it's the fuel quantity actuator that's at fault. I'd still be looking at MAP/EGR/MAF first.

this is why i have a small doubt,i ran out of fuel due to a incorrect fuel gauge....twice,and the lack of power happened around the same time, its non egr and the pipe to the map sensor was replaced recently due to it being split, the car has been down on power for at least 6 months with it not getting any worse, its sluggish to pull away, more so if it hasnt been used and seems to struggle through the gears(auto),for example if im doing 70mph with the cruise control engaged and i come to an incline it drops 2 gears and thrashes itself but then settles down and is fine,it does seem like a fuel delivery problem of some sort,it also sometimes nearly cuts out when changing gear when stationary,i have searched this forum but havent found a definative answer, thanks all for your replies,Lee.

what would cause the actuator to come up on diagnostics if it wasnt the problem,i'll test the in tank pump tomorow now that the dry weather is here!
