OK so everybody please have you fingers, and anything else you can spare, crossed tomorrow at 11am. Rangie is going for her first MOT since I owned it. It came with almost 12 months MOT when I bought it but you never really know what that means.
I have done about 15K miles in it since and other than a few teething problems and some cooling system problems which I caused myself, I have to say she has performed admirably.

I have done a mini MOT myself and my only obvious worry is the rear brake pipes (Thanks to Irish I have the low down on changing them out if required). Chassis looks solid but it is difficult to really gauge the steering etc.

The first MOT is always the one I worry about the most - it is kind of a barometer to how likely you are to sell on or keep for another year.

Anyway I will let you know how well you did in the afternoon.:D

Good Luck with the MOT.

If there are steering faults, most probably be down to worn ball joints on the track rod or drag link. Easy to change, plus a new complete track rod or drag link assembly doesn't break the bank. Brake pipes if it's a DIY job isn't expensive, apart from the cost of shampoo to wash the ****e out of your hair (If you have got some !!!)

Criteria for brake pipes is no pitting greater than .025mm deep or a third of the wall thinkness. Tester may scrape them gently to remove built up road film for inspection purposes.

Ahh feck she failed . Here is the list:-

1) Nearside & Offside rear lower shock absorber has an excessively worn rubber bush.
2) CO2 excessive (Actual value was 1.315% should be less than 0.200%
3) HC excessive (Actual value was 421ppm should be less than 200ppm)
4) Lambda reading high (Actual value was 1.128 should be between 0.970 & 1.030)
5) Rear indicators incorrect colour
6) Rear brake pipes corroded.

I also got an advisory about exhaust emitting blue smoke during acceleration.

Brake pipes were half expected. Indicators are starightfoward. I am guessing the shock absorber bushes are simple enough.

Anybody got any ideas about the emmissions? Last time I checked my fuel consumption was at the new year on a run to Scotland and I was getting roughly 22mpg.
