Has anyone here registered with this site and found any good lanes?
I've just registered and waiting for a password to come through, just wondering if it's any good or total tosh. They claim to have green lanes on here that are not marked on O/S maps.

I was once area rep for GLASS round this side of Wales and took a trip to Llandrindod Wells to view the definitive map and find lanes etc... and boy was it hard

I did find a good many lanes by the end of the 8 hrs I was there and even had people making me coffee through the day which was nice.
I hope Wayfinder is easier than doing it that way.. But to be absolutely sure of your lanes then I would definitely advise getting in touch with your GLASS rep for the area or even maybe taking a visit to where your definitive map is.

I tired this approach once and you are right, getting to just see the definitive map was hard and very time consuming some councils are just not interested.

Then if you do and you can understand old bits of ***** paper, then work out of find out some might not be available, missing cause with another council cause borders have moved, lanes have row except the last 30 yards (in another council area).

Then when you find them, you find out just dead boring farm track, or over grown so can't make out the route, farmer claiming council map is wrong, fenced off, forrest grown over, locked gate.

Course could join a national group only to find just a secretive, can't get on there website despite a member, then when spent all you time finding the routes you quickly relaise you need someone to go with.

So join a local group/club who know the lanes which are interesting, know the local area, know the hotspots where the moaners and antis lurk and most important know up to date the state of the lanes.

Have to say i tried that wayfarer with little sucsess, so signed up to glass and there lane list is a lot easier to follow, even if some are a bit outdated, bit of trail and era was needed, also look up a site called wetroads, this is a real good one for passable fords with good referances and clear instructions...

Guys ive got the POI files for TomTom and in .CSV format for other satnavs! The files give you all BOATS and FORDS in the country. PM me your email address. Ill email them to you.

PS let me know if youve got TOMTOM or another satnav!

Look in my font of all knowledge thread The .OV2 files are there and don't need converting to tomtom format
yeh,
this is neat this one,
i went out the other week and found a byeway near me(ascot), problem is it has a "unsuitable for motor vehicles" blue sign at each end, am i still within the law if i use it, is this just a cautionary sign or is it a no go?(it was on that day, some plank had parked a freelander across the entrance)
it's noted as a BOAT(byway open to all traffic on Tom Tom) and the byway sign is consistent with the local council identifcation key given to public rights of way. Any one know the score on this?
i was googling last night for an answer, but i'm none the wiser)

Unsuitable for motor vehicles is not a statutory sign if it was It would be a red circle with a white background. with a flying motorcycle over a car.

It's to cover the councils legal arse. in the event you damage your vehicle. The freelander was obstructing a public highway and should have been reported to the police. If it happens again Phone the police, tell them you are trying to drive down a road that someone has blocked by parking their vehicle across it.:D Don't mention greenlane or dirt track or anything of that nature. Legally it is a public highway that is all you need to tell them. You might be concerned that it's been blocked in order to allow a crime to be committed. Didn't you think you'd heard shouting or possibly even gunshots? :fighting: that may have been just innocent shooters out after rabbits or may not have been better safe than sorry???? :hysterically_laughi

I'm a big fan of this website. I found it a bit hard to get the hang of at first - it does not work in a very intuative way. I've not found it much good for finding greenlanes as such, but it is extremely useful for checking the status of a trail that you see marked on an OS map. The way I use it is to look at a trail on an OS map, then enter the coordinates into the website to find info on that trail. It is a huge database. There is a downloadable application on the website called TrackExplorer which again can be tricky to use at first, but this displays the tracks on the database in a graphical way - unfortunately without an OS map in the background though, but towns are marked.

I made a list of a few greenlanes in Wales (with links to online OS maps):

Be aware that the tom tom files include some byways that are now downgraded to restricted byways. We found them fun to use but its really important to check the status before you drive them. Also the POIs do not include UCRs or Public Highways as they are signed.

I think that sites absolutely great! I was looking for a couple of (extremely) easy greenlanes to do to get myself into them, turns out I own part of one and its just across the road from me!

By the way, sorry for bringing up an old thread.
