finding a geniune fuel pump?

Hello :)
A few months ago the fuel pump on my 2004 freelander packed up (on a busy road in rush hour...that was handy!)
Anyway I bought it a new one off ebay but it makes a very annoying buzzing sound. Having googled this it looks like it's a common problem with cheap aftermarket pumps.
I don't want it to let me down so I've been looking for a genuine one. The one that came off the freelander was stamped with BMW.
I phoned up the local landrover garage and nearly fell over when they wanted £280 for one. I was thinking more in the region of £150? There are some sellers on ebay claiming to sell genuine ones but can anyone tell me please how I can tell it's a genuine one? or do I need to fork out £280?
I really don't want to end up giving £150 for a non-genuine one!

I've had no problems with a £50 Ebay pump on my old V6. It wasn't even the correct part number for the V6 but it fitted and worked just fine. This was 2 years ago and it's still giving the service now the mother in law owns the V6.
 
Assuming a Td4 then the part number you need is LR023043 and available for approx £150

Ask for a price for that pump from your dealer

euro car parts do a couple of them but the cheapest only last about a year I brought the dearest one as it is a better make and will last longer round about £100 have a look at them online and you can order one as well on line

I'm still running the noisy one...sometimes it's not so bad noise wise (and other times it's darn annoying)
I spent ages trawling the net and phoning round. The genuine genuine ones (if that makes sense) from the main dealers were a fortune and with everything else there didnt seem to be a way to tell that it was actually a genuine one. none of them seemed to have the stamp marks that the old one had and some of the ones that were supposedly pierburg looked very much like the noisy one that's on her. It put me off to think I might fork out a lot for one and then have the same problem because it was a rip off one.
I had really wanted it changing before I had a 700-mile round trip to make but it got so close to the trip and I still hadnt found anything I could trust that I chanced it. The pump did that fine and another 600 mile trip since plus usual commuting so it isnt doing bad.
Ironically I was worrying about the fuel pump on that first long journey and then it was the turbo that let me down (quite spectacularly)!

and some of the ones that were supposedly pierburg looked very much like the noisy one that's on her.
the 'noise' be only 'cause of wear and tear
a new pierburg .. or bosch .. will get noisy by 70k miles plus ..
it's the moving bits inside that age .. plus the electric motor workings ..
they can't be rebuilt (a.f.a.i.k ) .. so replacement is the only choice ..
cheap pumps just wear out sooner ..

you should be able to get a pierburg or bosch at cheaper £ than at the lr dealers

I had the same issue, replacement pump and it would after a short while into a journey start whining. The pump itself lasted just over a year, just outside the warranty so the next pump fitted was a Bosch unit and only in February this year. My car is off to the breakers today in Sheffield :( so if it's of any use I can find out who they are and PM the details? A second hand but nearly new (they don't know that) Bosch pump might be a bargain.

It might have been snapped up already but if not it would be an ace bargain!
with this and a load of other problems I've been weighing up between flogging it and repairing it but think I've settled on repair (hope it's the right decision!)
