Cant go wrong at £275 !! is that the drive in drive out price or just for vcu and bearings?

Ive just rang them on the off chance annoyingly due to my and their holidays its going to be 3 weeks before I can get in to see them
Hi mate, that is the price for the kit only - but if you are near - it won't be much (if any more) to replace the VCU - it only take about 20 mins on the ramp / lift

Just rang me back and they fitted me in for the 6th Sept
strangely he does the fitting it at his home address apparently and its £320 fitted

Getting the VCU sorted makes a whole lot of sense but if your worried and plan to do a lot of miles before the 6th it only takes an hour or two to take the propshaft off. It'll be fine without it, you might even get a wee discount if you've done part of the work for them. :)

I have thought about that but times limited and so are tools before me holiday in dorset and ill be doing less miles on holiday than in my normal week so should be ok ( he says lol) but I am taking AA card and tools to remove the proo if necessary

Added issue that were going to Dorset steam fair on the thursday/friday next week which involves parking on a field and if it rains the place becomes a bog and I'll be buggered if the prop is off lol

Might remove it on the sunday I get back as will be just be doing weekly commute then
until the 6th will it fit in the back of the fl whole with seats down or does need it breaking into sections first?

I hope the steam fair isn't a bog. It's a pain when the weather wet and I'm there on the Sunday. :)
The prop needs splitting at the VCU joint before it fits in the boot;)

Good too know thanks Nodge, I've found the tools as described in Hippo guide so there currently under the boot floor if needs be, fingers are massively crossed lol

I'm there Thursday and friday as were down there all week, booked an early breakfast with B&B l too so we can beat queues and park at front to save walking for miles lol

This thread is no good without photos!!!!!
Common mate, you know the rules!

The original is down so we can't have a proper snoop. :p

Ha very true sorry forgot had plenty of opportunity though so far and keep forgetting!

Will take some at lunch

Did a one wheel up test of sorts last night, rear end up handbrake off in gear and using a 2 foot bar I was quite easily able to rotate the vcu using the centre hub nut, not the correct method I know as lacking a long bar but peace of mind was achieved as a result :)

Quiet alarming how much the diff moves with a knackered front mount though!!

Quick ones i've just taken

Ok so a little list of things that needs sorting out on the LF ( which has yet to be named by the way so any ideas welcome)

  • VCU change ( booked in on the 6th September @ Bells engineering)
  • Rear diff mount when I get back from Holiday( you can drive carefully and it doesn't knock else would have been done before hand if you couldn't)
  • Regas the air con and hope no other problems, ( it's a bit sweaty with leather seats and no air con !!)
  • new aerial as old ones missing
  • Bleed brakes as they're a bit spongy for my liking
  • full service inc Gearbox/ ird/diff oil changes
  • Find out why HDC doesn't work ( suspect wires on trigger switch)
  • replace stereo with a standard one so my CD changer ( a welcome surprise when I found it) and steering wheel controls work again.
  • Front pads have about 6 months left in them but will be upgrading to Mtec drilled and grooved discs and greenstuff pads, they create a load of dust but not found a better combination yet
  • Replace tow ball with a tow jaw and pin

Funny, first thing I notice when looking at the photos was, that stereo needs replacing. Sad or what:oops:
Looks like a nice car, I might be in the minority here but I do prefer the pre face lift model.

Thanks Mike

I'm inclined to agree on the shape esspecially the very early ones in the funky 90's colours like Dave smiths, but I do have a soft spot for the facelift G4 ones and I wouldn't say know to a 1.8t 3 door turbo like that lad on here ;)

Im actually thinking of replacing my headlights with the earlier ones with the amber indicators purely to make it look that little bit older than it is

The only plus point the stereo has is the aux port for my iphone to play music through

Very nice and I think I agree with Mike about the looks of the prefacelift but not the ones with grey plastic though.

If mine tested OK I wouldn't bother taking it to Bells. Anything under a minute is fine in my book, anything near two minutes is bad and needs changed. In Between and you need to be thinking about it in the near future but no need to panic.
Just my twopence worth.

+1 - but you do need to do the 1.2m bar with 5kg so that you are testing against a known set of results.
