Finally Done It

The old ones were so worn you could see the cooper threads and being a novice it had me worried and i just kept putting it off.

I did it slow, passenger side first, wheel off, took out the arch liner, freed the fittings and then removed old bag and replaced with a nice nearly new Original Fit Dunlop bag. Took about 2 hours for the passenger side and 45 mins for the drivers side as I knew what i was doing.

Compressor is now not having to work half as much however as this is my first P38 I have no idea how often they come on and for how long. Can anyone help with this?

Finally on another issue, my P38 has about 150000 miles on the clock and whilst it does not overheat in fact i think i am lucky as it does not have many issues it does like a bit of water.

My next job is a coolant change before the winter but amount of water does a P38 usually use?

Can't help much with the first question; although I can tell you mine runs for ages sometimes (especially when started for the first time in a few days - I tend to leave it in Access Mode as the kids are still too small to just step in quickly if it's at normal height) so I think I need to overhaul the compressor itself and check all air-pipe unions etc for leaks...

Using water...lucky answer will be wet footwells and those O-rings for the heater matrix pipes buried underneath the dash. Seems to be a painful job just to replace a couple of 20p O-rings

Worst case scenario is slipped liners...new block/recon'd top-hatted block basically...:doh: Check your front footwells for coolant (if it's just water its probably the pollen filter covers or the air-con drains), check your rad & coolant hoses etc for leaks and if all's well there finally hope for a simple, straight-forward blown head gasket...
