Just thought i would bring the subject up as i couldn't find much on them. I'm sure if they were any good peeps would be recommending them.
At £50 a pop to. You can buy your own magnets for a quid.

Used to use filter magnets in bike engines. Occasionally cut them open to see if any "stuff" - sometimes a metal film on motors with iron liners.
Now I just use mag drain plug. They will give you all the bad news you need to see.

I've got one. Picked it up for a couple of quid on ebay. Picks up loads of bits.

Isnt that what the filter does itself trap particles the holes are set in filters to trap particles . Must be your imagination running away with you :p

I had a van with 40 k regular oil changes no fancy magnets 240k later wink wink

It catches the fine stuff that the filter lets pass through. Some say snake oil some say they are good. So people got to decide for them selves. It is commonly used in heavy construction and farm tractors. For road use maybe not.

Brother in law drives the top shop tractors valtra ect never seen a magnet in a filter only in the sump and gearbox drain bolts .

When I rebuilt my 200 I fitted a sump magnet plug, and fitted some small Neodymium Block Magnets around the filter. They only cost £4.00 for five, and are extremely strong. I did this on the grounds that it could do no harm, and might do good.
On the first oil change, at 800 miles, there was a lot of very fine grey sludge on the drain plug, from the rebore. I didn't strip down the old filter, but if they remove even a little of this fine metal dust from the oil, it's £4.00 well spent.

The second oil change, at 1900 miles total, still produced some of this dust.

All new engines have a 500 miles oil check as they will always grind a bit as they settle in , its just a check to see if there excessive filings then somthing is wrong
