filter element

Hi all
I want to change my crank breather filter and landrover are telling me i have to chaneg the entire unit and are looking for 70 quid for the part.
Can i not just replace the element with this

or do i have to change the whole lot?

isnt the bmw one a plastic element?i thought the filter element was different.thats if you were going bmw route then you had to get the bmw filter assembly too?

Dont use the LR part. Use the BMW replacement, it doesn't get blocked like the standard 'filter'. Part No. 11 127 799 367 from BMW dealer, ~£20.

and will that just fit in the landrover housing?

aye tis a straight swap, tiny bit of fettling at worst

thanks gents.i did do a search but was not sure if the bmw one would fit and then ladrover told me you had to buy the full unit and couldnt just change the filter

Can't imagine why? Maybe to empty your wallet more efficiently!!

The bmw part is the option you want/need.

Just fitted the ebay filter to my 2005 TD4 as this was the easiest option for a quick fix (original looked like it had never been changed), also fitted the EGR valve bypass at the same time. As my annual mileage never exceeds 4000 i'll probably fit the BMW modified filter sometime next year.

The bmw part merely replaces the old one so it's no more difficult. Some early models have a small lug in the housing, so a small notch needs to be cut but its a job of seconds and is good for life, rather than having to be changed regularly... and doesn't act as an obstruction on the system because it doesn't clog

Lift out filter, push in vortex unit - just as you would the filter
and,
.... it doesn't have to be done again, ever

i have the BMW internals, went to my local dealer and was no problem to fit - actually it was fiddly taking the fuel leak back pipes things off but apart from that it was fine.

It was the the option I chose because the local BMW dealer had nil stock and when it was back in stock I would have to drive about 30 miles to collect.
The ebay filter was delivered to my front door two days after I had placed the order, that's why it was the easiest and quickest option in my case. As stated previously, the next time I need to change the filter then I will go for the BMW option. As I had just fitted the EGR bypass fitting a clean crankcase filter as soon as possible seemed the best option.
