Years ago I rebuilt a 1973 AMC CJ5. I replaced the entire steel body with a fiberglass one.

Fiberglass does not corrode and is really easy to repair.

I should imigane the fibreglass panels would be quite a lot heavier than the alloy std ones

Craddocks at Cannock were doing fibre glass front wings (fenders)

There is ABS "plastic" stuff about I would think there is less chance of it cracking.

Yeah but those CJ thingies are made out of that rusty stuff, landies have nice alloy panels that last a bit longer. A few blistery scabs maybe.
