After i fitted the xfer box some time ago, i realised i couldn't select low range on the box, push the lever and it never engaged.

Today i had a look at the reason why and it comes down to the link pin fouling the gearbox.

If you put the link pin through the linkage from drivers side towards the gearbox, it fouls the gearbox when trying to select low range ( neutral & hugh range are fine )
However there is not enough room that i can see with my large hands to get the pin to go through the other way which'll allow it to clear the gearbox.

Any ideas??

Btw it was a Disco xfer box and the selector levers are different, whats the best way around it ( still got the original Def xfer box )

Take the linkage off the transfer lever splined bit (mark where it went on) put yer pin through from the back and put back on again.

It was the top pin James, my mistake as they are the same.
I tried to work out what you meant Gratch, if I was on the same track as you then.i couldnt see how it would help.
In the end I released the selector housing ( 6 bolts ) and put the pin in and bolted it back down, took 5 mins :D

Then took another 10 mins undoing it and readjusting the lever as it wad in the wrong place

Reet, I got me crayons out.
I presumed you were on about the pin circled in yellow, and I said to remove the bit circled in blue off the splined shaft to enable replacement of yellow circled pin from behind.

You'd have to remove difflock lever linkage circled in red first though.

Now, is that all clear?:confused::confused::confused:

Well thanks for the crayons mate

We're talking cross purposes here though, I'm talking about the high/low lever which is just nearly showing on the left of your pic, your showing the engage lever ( neutral as I call it ) :D

that lever is hi/low diff lock lever ,you mean pin on transfer box selector housing shaft, you must have to long a pin in it if catches

That is the high/low lever, but a disco gear box. High/low is in same place but gear stick is in different place on disco and defender gear boxes.

Pin is oki James, correct length, but requires to be fitted the other way, it has a 2-3mm head which clears the gearbox casing...just, even with a shorter pin I think it'll struggle to have 2-3mm poking out towards the gearbox and have a hole to put the split pin in.

Mine is the same as pic 1 Gratch :D

Look at all that space to work in as well....lucky Bugger ;)

thanks a lot:)

one last question,

Iwant to have this line with my defender with lt230 transmission.

do you know which parts should I change_?
