hey people ,

only had the disco for about a week , just enjoying it but have a few noises etc

right when i first start it and go to pull of i can select a gear and lift the clutch then it pulls off almost as if the clutch sticks , only when cold its abit odd

handbrake judders like anything quite a worrying thing really lol

little weaping of oil on the swivels not bad theres a residue on the nearside and a bit more then a residue on the offside, is that acceptable or should i be prepareing to change seals

bit of a weap of oil around the transfer box ,

tops out at 80mph max and isnt happy about dooing it either

other then that and a rusty rear bumper it drives lovely and no rust that hasnt been repaired , the at tyres on it do well ,

thanks for the help in advance

sorry for going on

handbrake judders like anything quite a worrying thing really lol You only ever apply the handbrake when the vehicle is completly STILL.

You'll be asking what's the bigestest tyre next. :welcome2:

The clutch sounds like its got oil on it and it's grabbing?
My swivels are ****ing all over the tyres so I'm going to try changing them this weekend, I could live with a weep.
70 limit, but other than overtaking, I don't take mine past 60, drinks fuel at high speeds.
Never use handbrake when moving, if t judders then it's got oil on it, transfer box oil seal leaking.

yeah but a handbrake is applied at rolling speed for handbrake which caused a advisory is all , but handy to know it maybe a weep , at least i can order some seals when i renew the handbrake ,

yeah clutch is abit odd , allmost like your dropping it as aposed to easing it in if that makes sence , doesnt slip at all ,

the only reason i ask for speed is i just wanna make sure it is all good and im not having to prepare myself for a gearbox or transfer box issue , (and to be honest iv never owned a vehicle this slow (good slow but still slow)) just checking all the bases i do 70mph in it but just feels its alittle laboured doing it ,

thanks for the help and advice

so what is the biggest tyre ;) :behindsofa: :dnfnoob:

hi
as far as i know the hand brake in u.k is a park brake and should only be applied at stand still ,
in u.s.a on most motors they have a foot operated e,brake whitch is a emergancy brake that can be applied when moving , not a hand brake
as for speed i have tweeked my pump through the top ( loads of info on forum ) and it will cruise at 85 easy and tops out around 105 on the clock , but as said it will realy drink at them speeds

Tell me what type of emergency you would use that in??????????:eek:
It is a foot operated parking brake. In very old cars the brakes where cable operated and the emergency brake was a back up brake for if the first failed then you used the other (emergency)
The name has stuck IMO a bad choice of a word. Most of newer cars have hand operated parking brakes
Just looked on my 05 truck and it says PARKING on it

beg to differ a bit mate ;-), ive had loads of american cars i have to admit only from 50s
60s 70s & 80s and the park brake is refered to as e,brake = emergancy brake and in various american states :5bpatriot:it has to be capable of stoping the vehicle from the speed limit to a stop , if the hydraulic system fails , mainly because on mainly being auto box's so no manual gears to change down :)

I agree with Jamesmartins comment. The reason for the judder may be the fact that the the handbrake grabs the prop shaft (I think from memory) and their will be backlash in the transfer box and diff's before it stops the wheels.

Light weep on the swivels is nothing... is it a 200 300 or series 2 disco? either way is it the pedal sticking or just he whole car then it jerks and moves ? if it jerks and then moves its the fault you have already asked about ie the oil leak from the transfer box, what happens is the oil contamintates the hand brake shoes and over time they spread the oil around the drum and with the heat exchange it becomes more like a sticky substance and over night or long periods of time it will stick the hand brake on slightly then when you move off it will jerk and free its self. if its the pedal thats sticking 9/10 times its the slave cyclinder but it could be both slave and master cyclinder.
hope this helps abit

yeah that makes sence , it is like the hanbrake holds on first thing , all the pedals are fine ,

are they a big job to refurb ?

thanks for all the advice btw people

nope not at all if you are low on funds u can buy just the seal i sugest fitting the seal slightly deeper in the housing than it used to be (1-2mm) as the original would have worn a groove in the metal ( soft wears hard over time) and clean the flange seal face off with some scothbrite or and old scouring pad nothing to abrasive like sand paper tho. get a new seal ( recomend genuine) there only about 12 quid. take the shoes off as a whole unit inc springs place in large tray or out the way from ppl and u can heat them up with a small burner / blow torch and it will boil the oil off leave to cool naturally and scuff up with sand paper .. if they are the original land rover ones they will become a tan colour once the oil has come out clean out the drum with brake cleaner and again scuff this up.. refit them all and then whilst under the car rock the drum to make sure its free and then adjust using the 17mm nut on the back turn it till it just locks then 1/2 -1 1/2 turns back till its nice and free but u have about 3 notches on the lever and grease the prop uj's once you have done if u you can.
again hope this helps.
