sorry to hear this. The female also has an implant to stop her having babies as my jill and hob live together. 
They are great little animals once they are trained and apart from them being a little bit smelly i wouldn't trade them in for the world
You sure the dog vaccine is not a way forward given that there's nowt else?

They are correct in saying that there is no licenced vaccine for ferrets as there isn't unfortunately.
I ended up taking mine to another vet in the end and one of the veterinary nurses (also a friend) that works there rehomes ferrets outside of her work and has no problem to vaccinate ferrets against canine distemper and has done so for a number of years. All hers are done before they are rehomed and mine are vaccinatd once every 2 years now
