Just finished rebuilding the front calipers with stainless pistons. I split them to make a fiddly job a breeze.
New discs and pads too.
Watching them lovely pistons instantly retract when the pedal was released was most enjoyable.
She now pulls up straight and true.
No more rusty pistons yay!

you should always clean your piston when it gets mucky !

How hard was it to get the seal and metal ring in? I've got a set that need doing but I just can't be arsed with all the swearing at it lol

Easy peesy... if the calipers are split.
With the piston seal and piston installed, fit the wiper seal into the ring, lube it up with brake fluid and ease it over the piston , then use a suitable short (4" ish) piece of tube and a mallet, tap it home. 90 pistons are 41mm, 110 are 46mm so I can only give you the tube size for a 110.
Slightly smaller than the ring is what you want.
Oh, and clean the recess of rust where the ring sits, I used a flat blade screwdriver.

Happy days I have no end of rusty callipers that I need to get a set cleaned up and painted! I brought new seals and pistons for one calliper but never tried it. For now I have a half decent set on but for future I'd like fresh ones with a nice coat of paint and new seals

Source the seals for the caliper halves first, makes the job much easier.

The other way to do it (again if the caliper is split) is to fit the seals into the caliper, use a radius arm washer and small hammer to carefully tap home the retaining ring and then ease the piston in once the seals are fitted. I have done a couple of sets like that now and it means you have all the tools you need and don't have to try and find a price of pipe the right diameter.
