Hi, i have a 2003 1.8 petrol and there is a delay for the reverse lights coming on when engaged into reverse, if left in reverse before starting the engine they are on instantley but after driving about and for a while and then engaging reverse the reverse lights don't come on for a good 15-20 seconds. second issue when starting the car in the morning the wipers don't work in intermediate, normal or fast wipe for a good 1 minute or so but doing a single wipe or screen wash wipe they work fine. New reverse light switch fitted and new wiper motor fitted already.

Hi,

Firstly the wipers. The wipers do not work for the first minute then work fine. The single wipe always works.

The single wipe bi-passes the CCU and provides a feed directly to the motor to operate the wipers.

The CCU takes the resistance of the selection on the wiper stalk and then drives the wiper motor accordingly.

Central Control Unit (CCU)
The CCU is plugged into the back of the passenger compartment fusebox below the fascia. Two connectors provide the interface between the CCU and the passenger compartment fusebox and three connectors provide the interface between the main harness and the CCU. The CCU is responsible for controlling the following functions if installed :

l Transit mode.
l Anti theft alarm.
l Windscreen wipers.
l Courtesy lamp delay.
l Door open warning lamp.
l Key in alarm.
l Rear fog guard lamps.
l Lights on alarm.
l Seat belt warning.
l Handbrake warning.
l Rear screen wiper.
l Tail door window.
l Heated rear window.
l Heated windscreen.
l Tail door latch.
l Window lift.
l Seat heating.
l Daytime running lamps.

Your symptoms could point to the CCU taking longer than normal to initialise. A visit to testbook equipped member or garage would help diagnose.

Hi,

And now the reverse light. Assuming that a tow bar is not fitted.

This is a little bizarre. There are no "controlling" interfaces...just battery to fuse-link to ignition switch to fuse to reverse switch to lamp.

Using a voltage tester work back from the tail to see where the voltage is "missing".

The only other thing I can suggest is check the earthing points for the rear lights. the previous owner of my freelander had a tow-bar fitted and that caused some weird light related issues until I rewired and tightened the earth points correctly.

Cheers

Mark
