OK , so about 6 months ago I did cap leads and rotor all genuine lucas (did full service too)

Been running a bit lumpy since, eliminated most other possiblities now so had a look in the dark, it looked like a firework display with all the arcing so sent lucas leads back.

Went to a local supplier they only had miratec lead set on the shelf, never heard of them before so I was doubtfull (plus they were made in UK more doubtfull lol)but lengths were good -but again arcing but the rangie ran much better.

Went back and got Bosche ones, lengths were terrible but got them on there ,these are 7mm so should be better nope arcing like a goodun!

And before you say it leads were laid out so in accordance with manual, using spacers and not touching anything or each other as far as humanly possible (feckin hard with the bosche ones as they are such wrong lengths but on the box it is for my car!)

So FFS what can you do, am tempted to put miratec ones back on as the lengths fit really well and help with the not touching alot, anyone got an opinion on miratec?

Dont say go and buy some magancore ones unless you can deliver them to my door tonight as I have to take all thats going back - back tomorrow and they are £80 too (do they fit the lucas caps?)

The arcing is by far the worst on the king lead! and its definatly not arcing on the cap itself.

I challenge all classic owners (those whos calssics actually run -yes K man I mean you lol:p)to go out tonight and do this test in the pitch black and see, I think you will be supprised at your free lights show.

WTF all other cars I have ever had , even 6 cylinders with real long leads it never matters about spacing or touching, why on these and even then it still arcs??

Other than that got any ideas lol sorry for the rant but so far I have swapped 32 leads arggghhhh!!!:doh:

Just been out there and had a look. (tripped over the spare sodding chassis)
Not one spark/short on any lead even at high revs. (neighbours are probably screaming now hehe)

Bosch leads, NGK plugs, Halfords own cap and rotor (as they didn't have the bosch ones.)

But did notice my bloody steering box is marking it's territory.

Thanks m8,thort u fixed the box?

so WTF l with all my leads????? u think my coil is putting out 10 trillion volts??

Hi,
V interesting - my old RRC used to do the lightshow thing and I never did get it resolved. The new RRC had magnacore leads fitted when I bought it and no problems - you can't even play a tune on them as they seem plenty long enough!

Hi Fett,

As you know, I am aware of your plight, with similar issue as you some years back, I was lucky enough to get a set of bosch leads back then that were the correct length and it sorted the glowing instantly and all misfiring eliminated immediatly. Are you near someone that has a tester for the leads, because if they are not handled right they can easily damage.
be very suspicious if your box of bosch leads has been opened, (if they come in box in uk that is, mine did in Aus) as it could mean some other fella has been f_ _ _ ing with em. I do not imply that you are installing them incorrectly, but be very ver careful to only hold by the rubber sheath when installing or removing them, never pull on the lead.

All the best.
