Seeking the grant of a favour BEFORE specifying what that favour is...

My parents were caught out years ago in a similar way:

“Would you like to come to dinner next week?”
“Yes, of course.”
“It’s a charity dinner, and all guests have to pay £50 towards the church roof.”
“(C**t).”

For info it was to look at a car to save me driving for 9 and a half hours.
I got my brother to drive the 98 miles to see it. Then I bought it.

It's ok, only 4 hours 45 one way

Just investigating shipping options, although I may still end up collecting it.
