Faulty injectors, help please?

My Freelander has just been on a diagnostics machine (one of the good expensive ones) and no fault codes came up showing a faulty injector, however it's got all the signs for a faulty injector.

I have a replacement coming soon (hopefully it's just the one that's gone) but is there anyway I can do a visual inspection on an injector to see if thats the broken one?

Or will it just be a case of, remove one, fit new one... repeat until I find the suspect?

You need to do a leak off test. Usually identifies dodgy one. Do a search and you'll find how to do it

Are your injectors the short blue stubby ones with the 0280155885 on the side, these are the type on mine.

I had a injector problem a couple of weeks back that turned out to be clogged up, you can take them out and test them first to see if your getting a good ohm reading, then clean them.

There are some vids on youtube showing how to clean injectors, you make a cable with a switch in it that connects to the injector and the other side to a 12v battery, so you can turn the injector on and off in short bursts, a short length of poly tube pushed onto a syringe with the bottom cut off fits onto the injector, you fill the tube with carb cleaner and push the plunger back into the syringe, as your pressing the switch on press the plunger so cleaner is been jetted through the injector.

It's best to watch the youtube vids as they show it alot clearer than i can write/explain it, it's quite staight forward.

be care full tightening up the nuts on the studs as they can snap and the stud and nut are expensive for what they are , I think they were about £27 4 years ago.

It seems to have almost sorted itself out. I took the car to Roean in Telford who put it on their T4 diagnostics machine and they had no faults (just the AFM which they sorted - but I knew it had broke) the start up is now not-as smoky, so that's clearing and the injector 'knock' has gone, I haven't heard it since they sorted the AFM, which is odd. I did however run some injector cleaner through a tank of diesel, and will do another one tomorrow again. So fingers crossed, I won't need to change an injector at all.

Roean said the smoke on start up will be in the exhaust and will clear up over time....
