Joy of joys, took the car into Halfords to have the A/C topped up today, and they took it upon themselves to mess about with the key, now the car is immobilised and in engine disabled mode (Key1 and Key2 have worked fine upto leaving the car with Halfords)

Now with a knackered up Key 1 and the car immobilised is there anyone in the Surrey Hampshire border area with a faultmate ? the only option Halfords have now is getting the car transported to the main dealer who can't look at it for a week.

Halfords are picking up the bill.

So what was the cause and the remedy...thread is bloody useless as it helps no one...this forum ain't just to post your problems and when you get a result just ignore it and not give others help and hope....it helps no one!!

Rant over!

No problem but i'll go into it a bit here as it could be useful info to all

It turns out that Halfords branch has had a radio mast erected very close by, so while both key 1 and key 2 took a dump at this particular branch, never having had a problem ever before.. so got a lift down in our other P38, strangley enough, also never having problems with this P38's keys ever it wouldn't communicate with the car and lock the doors.

Manhandled the car into a position where the tower was blocked by a building and bingo it started.

Back home, both P38s now communicate with the keys no problem at all.

The branch manager mentioned he has had other cars also have key/immobiliser issues since the tower went up.

So it would seem never having a problem with either car ever before and both experiencing a problem at that specific location, and since removing the cars from that location and working fine, it could be surmised that the tower is emitting RF at a frequency that is interupting the key communication. of course confirmation would require using RF singal test equipment.

But that is about all i can surmise.

Still want to get a nanocom or a faultmate though !

Who's not tell us all now?:D
Just for you:)
Stray RF emissions from radio/phone masts is a common problem that doesn't just affect the P38, I've even had the same problem with a Honda Blackbird outside a taxi office in Spain.
I can't remember the name, but there is an authority to whcih you can report the problem and they will check for stray emissions.

Yes, it's something to do with the telecoms authority. Remember they were on the news, called in due to problems in Windermere. Cars where being immobilised outside a Café. Turned out to be the wireless device the waitress was using to send the orders to the kitchen. They had to change their operating frequency. I was thinking of contacting the authority when I had my spurious signal problem but I don't know where they would start in this area, there are so many black spots:)
