He is helping P38 owners to put £183.00 in his pocket and getting people talking about his products that's what he is doing. Top business man, making people feel they owe him something by taking money from them. Classic. I wonder what would happen if for instance someone from Island 4X4 offered a 10% discount for airbags on the open forum. Would that be allowed or would it be regarded as advertising a product? The discount is the carrot that then allows blatant product advertising or company promotion to follow in the guise of helping people. When in reality all they are doing is spreading their product or company name around like confetti. And making money in the process. Nice if you can get away with it.;););)
 
What's your problem wammers, so what if BBS posts on here and talks about his product, for one I'm glad he does, he's helped me out loads of times with different things, nothing to do with any of his product just offers advice like any other member on here. And it's a great resource for the forum that we have such a knowledgeable person for us mortals to ask stupid questions to, and get the answer we need. And when I comes to his products he knows them inside out so when anybody needs an answer to question on his products he's always happy to help and provides great advice.

Good for you Matt. Is stating the obvious and complimenting someone on his business acumen a sign of a problem.
 
Noted the comments, both pos & neg, when i did the group buy for the L.Z members we all got a good deal, with back up !... Remember BBS does have overheads, staff and other costs to pay out, plus he is a Land Rover nut himself.... His FCR has saved me a trip to the STEALERS already!..... A case of 6 of 1 ..... & half a dozen of the other.... He does not have to post on the forum, he does not have to offer group discount,. We dont have to buy his products!... Each to their own! I don't believe we have any victims due to his products?.................

There seems to be a common misunderstanding that if someone is running a business and they charge a lot of money for their goods or services then they are loaded and money grabbing. I run a small engineering shop with a good friend and just to cover costs we have to earn £40 every hour we are open - that is cost only, no profit. We produce a range of rack systems for the reptile trade and people quite often say the product is great but why is it so expensive ? The answer is simple - if they were cheap, we wouldnt be in business. Rent, rates,water,sewage,insurance,wages,electricity,Ni,etc etc, the list goes on.Put on top of that the cost of plant, then its amazing that any small business survives these days. So I would have to say well done to BBS, one for a great product and two, for still being in business.

I've got to echo Rewmer. I really don't have a problem with BBS Guy 'pedaling his wares' on here. It's not like he's selling garden sheds or vegetable slicers. He's selling the most fundamental tool that will allow you to maintain your P38 yourself. The P38 is a bundle of ECU's that all like to have an occasional hissy fit. The person with the best handle on that bunde of ECU's is Colin. End of story.

I've seen enough stupid design faults with the P38 to know without a shadow of a doubt that they are not stupid design faults but designed-in issues to ensure a steady stream of income to LR dealerships over the lifetime of their products. Their system of diagnostics is the most obvious of these ploys to ensure user dependance on dealers.

BBS are the only company to have gone out of their way to break that monopoly on the electronic side, and fair play to them if they make money out of it, they deserve to!

Its actually pretty short sighted to have a cut off BBS Guy. The biggest problem with the P38 is the electronic side of it. All the physical issues are well within the capability of the knowledge base on here but who is the singular greatest authority on diagnostics outside of the LR Engineers who designed it, none of whom I see queing up to answer our queries? BBS Guy!!

The guy comes on here of his own violition, answers queries and PMs on his own time (I don't see the MD of too many LR specialist companies posting freely on Forums, I'd love to have someone from Ashcroft or Bosch to PM whenever I have a stupid query). And yet, everytime he flushes a little with pride in his work (and has acknowledged and apologised many times for his sizable ego :)) he gets caned. I know he may seem to be knocking Storey Wilsons efforts a bit but only someone who has completed the journey can truly tell you about all the trip. Right now Colin is the only guy who truly understands what Storey is trying to achieve and has any idea how much more work he has to do. It may come across as arrogant but thats one of the downsides of being an authority on a subject (not that I'd know what that feels like:))

I know that if it was me, I'd be looooong gone with my expertise and let the naysayers PM each other in the fog of disinformation out there, no way I'd put up with faceless b*llsh*t you have to take on a public forum.

Yeah your right Data maybe he comes accross wrong sometimes but then again maybe most of us do. Maybe if he invited us to his place in Cyprus for a couple of weeks, all expanses paid of course, we could sort things out face to face. :D:D:D:D :behindsofa:
 
Many may well have expected me to post in to this thread earlier, as i have obviously followed it, but i have refrained fom doing so until now, only because I have been so totally stunned into silence by the sheer volume, depth and warmth of so many members posting up in support, i am really quite overwhelmed. :eek:

I still really cannot find the words to thank you all anywhere near sufficiently for your most kind and generous comments, But i will try to make a start by truly thanking you all from the bottom of my heart.

I have never felt so appreciated and welcome on a forum, and am utterly gob smacked to discover that some have such a deep and knowledgable grasp on the situation i really am still struggling to get over that.

I have written and then deleted following paragraphs almost a couple of dozen times now, because no matter what i write, or how hard i try, i simply cannot re iterate or add any more to what others have already noted and said here already.
How spot on they really are in all aspects, has by all accounts left me utterly speachless and unable to add any better or further related comment at all.

As a newcomer to the site and a newcomer to Range Rover l332, i can only say it has been an eye opening reading the the threads that the likes of BBS man has started and contributed to...how can anyone know that much about the vehicles electrics and diagnostics??.

It is great that we, as newcomers have Colin and the other regulars to help us in our hours of need sharing their wisdom......

Matt, I appreciate that you appreciate the support you got but presumably you'd have gotten the same from BBS customer service or the support forums in their website. No need to get worshipful. Take your own example, I think you're a top fella with your blog and your helpful lists and you've quickly and without a doubt become one of the best resources on this forum when it comes to L322s.

In the end, BBS guy is right. He did break the dealer's monopoly. And created a duopoly. But that's not his fault; if nobody else wants to do the work and get in to the market, how is he to blame? Like Irish, I think he has a good product and quite frankly I plan to go out and buy one shortly (if I decide to keep my Rangie). But I differ in my opinion of his business model over how he protects his revenues and how he promotes his wares. Rovacom, his earlier product was not locked to any vehicle yet even with owners freely lending it to their mates and so on it evidently generated enough revenue to build his business and fund the further development of new products. But his business model has now changed and if he says you can't lend it to your mates and he locks it to one VIN its because he can. Maybe it is the generation thing as John says because I personally think if I go out and buy a big 50" TV I should be allowed to have me mates over to watch the match and I don't expect to pay either Sony or Sky based on how many people are in my living room. But that's just me. The moral of the story is, this is as good as it gets at the moment. Its a good tool by all accounts and no one's being forced to buy it.

Hi mate, thanks for the kind words, don't think I would have gotten the same help from BBS customer service or there sites, as I haven't ordered my faultmate as of yet, I just wanted to thank BBS_guy personally for all his advice as at the end of the day were all in this together and should support each other as we all have this love for Range Rovers (what were we thinking :doh:) Any way, I will always be here to offer help and advice to others when I can, going to put so updates and new pictures on my blog later today of some of the things I've been doing to the rangie over the last few weeks so check it out.
