Faultmate for P38

Multi vehicle faultmate is flippin expensive but the P38 stuff is coming down in price. You're talking about €150 per module for all the good ones - EDC, BECM, EAS, Gearbox. IMHO you're better off to go single vehicle package for your own P38 and then add multi vehicle modules as the need arises. There are 3 built in identities on the faultmate so you can have a complete single vehicle on one then build up multi vehicle on a second identity as need dictates.

Thats what I'm doing anyway. I've only got Lucas 14CUX on multi-vehicle yet (need it for the RRC 3.9) but if I can get a local club together I'll see if its worth adding the other main ones.

There's actually a full Rovacom 2 for €2,300 inc Vat in their bargain basement section. Not bad considering I paid over €1,000 for my EXtreme MSV-2 including a Toughbook laptop.

i dont seem to see one for the P38 on the website, there are ones for like £250 whats the differance between them and the ones for £2k?

the one you probably want is "SV225" but if you spec out the same package with out the battery clips you save more than the clips cost.

i also bought this from maplins:
AC/DC Multi-Voltage 2500mA Switched Mode Power Supply : Switched Mode Power Supplies : Maplin

so you can power it on outside of the car for initial setup purposes.

Is this diagnostic software? has nobody thought of emulating the software on a pc? does it connect through the ODB2 port?
If it can be done for the EAS system, surely there is a possibility for the Becm to be hacked?
just a thought...

Tell him Colin...........

Was tempted by the Rovacom when I was looking at adding more modules to my (Then) Rovacomlite. As the Rovacom does not have the BECM CPU software module, I decided to buy the complete set of modules for the P38. After many years of good use out of my Rovacomlite, it decided to give up the ghost I have now replaced it with the Faultmate Extreme which is certainly an impressive piece of kit and seems to be more stable than the old RCL.
Many people have tried to find alternatives to Test Book and failed. Except that is BBS and Autologic. I worked for Hewlett Packard until my retirement and they manufactured the Test Book, believe me, I tried to discover the workings of the system with highly qualified Systems Engineers at HP without success.
