A lot of people here have one or other of the BBS diag tools. Given there is a £300 difference it would be great if owners of the 2 could give an honest opinion as to whether the MSV2 is really needed by the average owner and if so what advantages you get for the extra £300.

Thanks

one is single vehicle locked and other is multi vehicle

With the msv2 you get dealer level access plus more to all onboard systems. I understand the fcr is just a fault reader clearer nowt else. I certainly don't regret buying mine.

I have a FCR and I dont regret a penny.

I have reset several spurrios warnings worth its weight in gold........ Wish I could have afforded the full monty but you cut your cloth to fit your pocket:)

I believe the FCR (fault code reader) reads and clears faults and is single vehicle, but you can change it to another vehicle on paying a transfer fee to BBS, use for the previous vehicle is lost. The MSV2 reads and clears fault and can change parameters in the systems but is still single vehicle, but additional licences can be bought for upto three vehicles. I think, maybe someone will correct me. In my opinion both are seriously over priced. Difference more like £400.00.

Here we go again, sorry Wammers I don't think you have any concept of the number of man hours that goes into producing the software for this type of kit, just coding all the error messages is a mammouth task. Once it's written, it's not all profit, there is ongoing support, updates to correct errors that surface in the hands of users not to mention continuing development for new models.
The poor sod has actually done us all a favour, without his kit you would either have to go to the stealers or fork out for Autologic.
Anyone with the get up and go to gamble on investing time and money to produce this sort of stuff is IMO entitled to make a good living out of it.

And no I have no connection with BBS Guy or Blackbox solutions but I did used to design and manufacture micro controllers in my own business so I have a pretty good idea of what is involved.

It depends on how interested you are in getting to grips with the electronics. If you just want to read and clear faults but leave the repairs if they are serious to an Indy then the FCR which reads and clears faults is your tool. The Faultmate MSV 2 allows you to change things, to monitor live data from the engine for example, to operate the door locks and more other things than you can think of. Look at the BBS site for more details. You can buy it either single vehicle or multi vehicle.:D

think Irishrover is the man to ask he came and did mine, it had locked the engine and a lot of fault codes were showing that he removed, I think i paid a good price for a good job, it would still be sat on yard if it wasn't for John, I dont think that rover come out to re-set everything and its now, a working Range Rover where before it was worth nothing more that a pile of spare parts.

I was out in the RR today locked the doors alarm on went to shop came out, doors would not open, engine would not turn or start, managed to open drivers door with the key, had not got my 4 diget code for the drivers door lock, lucky the son inlaw came and collected me to fetch the 4 diget code and my Becm sync mate from home, not sure which one did the trick but i used the Becm sync mate and put the 4 diget code into the drivers door lock then into the iginition and turned the key, it then said "START ENGINE" but i had to turn the key to off position then to position 2 again then it was happy but i was glad i had the 4 diget code and the Becm sync mate, they stay in the glove box from now on. :)

Sorry mate still think they are 50% over priced.

Wammers

To be fair I did ask about the functionality and differential on price between the two. The fact the MSV2 is all singing all dancing and can do a lot more is undoubtedly attractive but the question really is does it justify the price difference ?

I keep a watch on the alternative and as Data says the time it is taking for RSW to code the version he will offer is substantial.

I guess you pays your money ....
