How long is it since you tried to open your car and is there a light on the fob to come on which shows that it is working or not? (I don't know cos I only have Discos 1 and 2!)

No there is no light on the fob and I used it just yesterday.
Your problem could be a flat battery on the car.
But to find out more you need to get into the car.
Here is a youtube to show you how to get into the car wirth the hidden metal part of the key and the hidden part of the nearside, i.e. passenger side front door.
Best of luck

I have a disco 3 and today my key fob will not work any ideas what's wrong?

hi

as mentioned u can get into ur passenger door using ur key , if u look underneath the Plastic blanking part ur see a slot, push ur key in there and cover will come off

the key is recharged via ur ign lock, is inductive charging

if ur key has been used and the spare also doesn’t work there are 3 x green / white wires down by the passenger door

These wires need to come apart and to be re soldered as they suffer over time causing a bad connection , , these wires are part of ur central locking , where the break stops the signal getting to the RF until that’s located in the roof

finally use some heat shrink

hope that helps And plse let us know how it goes

ps , as a side note if u think the key battery is flat , lay it next to a tooth charger , will charge ur key up

I still didnt understand if the symptom occurs with both fobs or if there is only one fob availabe... cos if there is no second fob to confirm it can be as simple as a fob failure and then chasing a wiring issue might be feckless

Great, he does know his stuff. but I'd make sure it isn't a fault with the fob, i.e. flat battery or summat before starting to pull wires out, cf @sierrafery !!!

Bless u, I won’t be able to get through the door, lol

indeed, that’s why I also mentioned ref if there was a second fob to see if that was the same before looking at the loom as indeed very easy things to check

Might be the RF sensor has failed under the headlining but as ur also rightly say, easy to start with the basics first

With so much electrical stuff I often feel there is stuff that gives hints before going off the rails and other stuff that just suddenly goes. And even stuff that then rights itself. Like the electric power steering on wifey's Pluriel. Or the ACE on my D2. both of which went down and then righted themselves. Gremlins, who'd have 'em!

All fixed thank you very much for your help i would have been stuck without you. Hope you all have a good weekend dispute the lockdown. Stay well.
