What was that you said eh eh what eh! Ha ha - no not deaf (yet) - I wonder - did you check the pipe for any small splits - its an odd one.

When I first mentioned this duck noise (I called it "spindown noise") some years ago there was no one who ever heard this before. None of the garage techs. ever heard that as they said, also none of the owners who had the egr blocked heard it and then all of a sudden from left and right people started to mention they had the noise as well. My neighbour the same, he said he didn't have that noise as I described until the first time he arrived at my place and stopped the engine, the first thing I heard was the duck. So ..... (it's hard to hear from the inside, just test it for a while when you can, arriving at home just leave the engine running, put your window down and open the bonnet and, standing outside, switch the engine off. Do this for a while and I bet you'll have it as well.) ;)

Caution!
The solenoid is operated by the ECU - the ECU generates fault codes.
One of them may be EGR solenoid open cct. If this is so disconnecting the solenoid may be a no-no.
Better to blank the vac me thinks!

Ah, yes good point, thanks.

Willo - you're totally correct. I had the EGR by-pass fitted for a couple of months and had never heard the duck, or even been aware of it.

After I read your posts I paid attention when my wife returned with the car and switched the motor off.

I reckon it's harmless - but it was very annoying / irritating to have a noise which should not be there.

I hate all unnecessary noises. Especially 'Farting, Dying, Ducks.'

A big thank you to you Willo for your detective work on this - are you by chance related to my hero Hercule Poirot? Ha ha.

Hi Willo,
Hit another 25# on a Dying Duck fred again - should be some sort of league table for recycled posts on a sticky freds. :D
Maybe a poll ??
Singvogel's spot on it ain't there till you hear it from outside and once you've heard it it becomes ominous every time you switch off until you know why.
Got any more nice pics of the WW2 aeroplanes ?? ;)
Or FL's recovering Tratters?:):)

Yes, seems to be a never ending story (like Coronation street or Bonanza or so), and guess it will last as long as the last Td4 engine has gone (on condition that had the EGR blocked as well), and as others say it is indeed annoying once it struck your attention.:)
Re the pics, will hold on for a while now, ming's just asleep it seems and who wants to wake up an animal in its wintersleep ?????:D:D:D
