Farm jack or trolley

I have had my 90 up on axle stands x 4 with no wheels on more than once. One was for about 6 mths and one was a whole weekend when I was Waxoyling

Seemed okay to me. I used 3 tonne rated ones and a high lift trolley jack on the diff to lift the front and back

Does noone use the standard LR jack?

I just use that at the moment since my cheap farm jack decided to drop my chassis on my hand and I don't trust it. Its now still sitting at the side of my shed where I threw it.

Anyone used the flatdog farm jacks? Seem a good price...

i use my standard jack if i am just taking a wheel off, rather than drag the trollety jack out etc

With big tyres and lots of travel, why not make a check strap up so that it holds the axle? That way use a trolley jack (whatever) to only lift the vehicle as far as needed to take a wheel off.

I've used 4 axle stands on the 90 and Disco chassis rails .. once on it's pretty stable, it's the getting on evenly that's awkward. I've also used 4 metal ramps and it's again very stable once on.

I _do_ like the idea of the diff 'balancer' though, gonna look to make one of those for future use .. well, it's now on the list of projects tooling ..

soon after buying my disco 1 I realised my normal trolley jacks dont lift high enough when the disco is on ramps.
I`m not short on equipement, got 3 trolley jacks, 2 & 1.2 sets of rated axle stands and 2 pairs of decent ramps, but, I them made the most bit of equipement I`ve used since disco ownership.

along with various wooden blocks used in various lifting and chocking, i made a superb trolley jacking block.
yes you can use it on "chuckies" even muddy ground as long as its not too deep, sand is ok too.
made from scaffold boards its 2foot long, 1 foot wide, and 7 inches tall.
looking from one end it resembles a T with scaffold boards cut to 2 foot long then screwed to each other with the jacking platform boards cut 12 inches long but screwed widthways to make up the 2 foot length..
yes its quite heavy but oh so safe.
I have smaller hight ones to put under the wheels if i dont want to get the ramps out which can be used with my bigger trolly jack under the lower shock mountings without the jacking platform, but horses for courses on the day...

Oh, I used the big platform plus bigger trolley jack plus 1 set of ramps on my LZinternational rescue job in my driveway a few weeks back..

but would be in the way on my drive and dam heavy to keep moving them..

Yes, I'm a fan of big blocks of wood for lifting vehicles. Sadly I don't have any to hand at the moment, but in the past I've used bits of floor joist, gatepost and railway sleeper. Nice and stable, plus they don't tend to dent the underside of the vehicle like metal stands. Even if they're not loadbearing, it's often reassuring to have one or two nearby under the vehicle when you're working just in case something should go wrong with the jack or stands, so you've got room to crawl out.

+1 i don't like just jack or even stands, if i'm going under the car i'll chuck some wheels under it too so even if it falls i can get out

Yeah, if I have a wheel off first place it goes is under the chassis rail if possible.

Not a fan of working under the wagon even when it's on stands - much prefer to have it on ramps. That said I'd like the Sealy 3 tonne high lift with axle bar for wheel changes.

The only time I've had a car (Triumph 2000) fall of the jacks I was reaching under to remove the Axle stands. Luckily I still had the spare wheel under that side of the car as well.
These days I have plenty of sleepers and 4X4 beams which are used as a back up. Also for Propping up sailing boats.

Can never have too many things underneath holding me disco up.....

The chuckies on my old drive just stopped the trolley jack from rolling

Firstly it's half price so not that far off an average price for a hi-lift. My old one was a Jackal. I'll stick with that when I get a new one but there is quite a range of manufacturers now. Anyone know the load on a hi-lift at full lift??

Funnily enough I have as well. A big one full of weeds round the back and a couple of smaller ones with carnations in by the front door :high5:

I have no idea what's in it plant wise....... My parents do all the gardening. Although I do know there is a fair few rusty bolts in it.

Looks can be deceiving, more than enough room for a good lie down under it. Will be more room once the rear axle is off completely
