Fan & Lights Gremlin?

So, here's a feature I haven't found in the handbook - perhaps someone can shed some light (badumtish).

Was just out in the car and, as it's freezing, put the blowers on full (manually) to heat up my feet. Happened to then notice that the interior lights came on..? If you drop the fan down by one notch, they go out. Back up 1 notch to full blast and they come back on.

What voodoo is this?
 
Hmm, I wonder if the radio also shares it.. as that's developed a noticeable whine while playing cassettes and CD's - only started after I removed some of it to sort the o rings.

Just to come back to this and update slightly - it hasn't happened again since that one time however I have noticed that I've been getting problems with the tailgate. When driving over bumps or the traditionally great-condition roads, a warning flashes up that the tailgate is open and the lights come on.

I presume there's a switch/sensor in the tailgate area that might need some TLC. Don't fancy going out in this weather to look for it, mind.

Yes if it thinks a door is ajar it will put the interiors on. So maybe coincidental to the heater fans and a duff switch on the tailgate. I can see no relationship heater fans to interior lamps on diagrams with a quick look.
