Hi I have these hubs on my ser 3 and one will not go from 4x4 to 4x2 have taken it apart cant see anything wrong!I know everyone will say chuck them in the bin but there on it the now:( so just trying to fix what I have got

Is it just turning 360 degrees? Mines gone like that, I think its just a bit worn. My granddad rebuilt one of them a few years back that sppun 360 and it was a bit in the hub that had rounded (not sure which bit, I'll ask him) and he filed it square again and it was fine. Will try and find out what it was exactly for you

I find them very handy when removing/ fitting the front propshaft so I'm keeping mine too :D

Take them off, soak them on diesel and then clean them out with a paint brush.

Once you have got all the accumulated grunge out, pack them with grease and refit them.

It worked on mine! ;) ;)

Do you mean you're stuck in 4x4? 'cos thats a gearbox problem! If the freewheel hubs won't disengage they're probably full of crap or corrosion. Remove, strip, clean, lubricate and replace.

Thanks for the replys it is just one hub it is nice and clean and seems to be turning only one way will have a proper look and see if it needs a file etc, have to get a new oring fir it! will try and get on with it at the weekend

That is the way to do them. Them things are so simple couple of snap rings a spring and couple of plates to slide. Clean them up put them back together with light weight grease and good to go, Worst thing for them is lack of use and over greasing them. Locking hubs should be engaged every 60 days and driven a few miles to loosen everything up.

There might be some burrs on the sliding bits that are stopping them moving easily - you'll need to dress them with a fine file. Run with the fwhs engaged every few weeks to keep the top bush in the swivel lubricated - unless there's grease in the swivels in which case you should have greased the railko bush thoroughly.
