failed CO emissions

Hi,
Regards a Freelander 1998, 1.8 K series
It has failed emissions on CO, the reading are high on fast ideal test (0.704 & 0.794) but is ok on Natural Idle test (0.235). All other emission readings are fine.
A couple of months ago I had a basic diagnostic test done and that come up with possible MAP sensor fault. On my early Freelander the MAP sensor is inside the ECU so I have just had the ECU tested at BBA Remain in Kent and they have said no fault found, ECU all ok, also I’m getting high fuel consumption at the moment.
A couple of days before the emission test I had replaced the Catalytic Converter & lambda sensor. The emission test result again suggests that the Natural Idle CO reading is OK but as the RPM’s were raised the CO levels increased.
At the present time the car starts fine (hot or cold)
Engine runs fine,
And has no fluctuations in revs on tick over.

All spark plugs, Dis’ cap, filters have been changed.

Any ideas?

Air Filter has been changed.
I have read that after market Cat's are not good, all though this one was mid range cost Is the only way to go is to get genuine landrover Cat' which looks like it's going to cost more than the car worth.

Does sound as though the cats not doing its job - can you take it back and get it changed?
 
at the age of the car i think i am right in saying you could remove the cat but ask the mot inspector my friend is away at the moment so can not ask him
 
You need someone to run some checks for you, could be several things..... maybe a dodgy o2 sensor,MAF sensor, Faulty coolant temp sensor, etc.....;)
 
Where did the cat come from ? The emissions Co reading is low enough to show the engine is nearly there,but they do need a good cat for final finishing.
 
You don't have any holes in the exhaust do you?? or joins??
even a small one will change the reading to too high,,

I had this on a Civic, new back box an all sorted..just a thought..
 
Bung some injector cleaner in it and thrash the living **** out of it on the way to its mot retest! Usually does the trick;)

if all other readings are ok i would think the aftermarket cat is at fault,fitted loads of them,waste of time,some are ok for a while but most dont last very long
