Some true Freelander help now.

It is highly likely, if fact I would say beyond doubt that the cable in the window regulator has snapped. Its a common problem with the older Freelanders because the poor design of the regulator sits the cable in water, and the cable rusts away until it snaps.

Solutions are either Cheap or Easy.

Cheap is to go onto EBAY and buy a Freelander window regulator refurbishment kit. Then you take the regulator out of the door and have alsorts of fun restringing the thing. There is a a good post on here somewhere showing in detail how this is done. It is not an easy job however.

Easy is to buy a new regulator complete, which is about 100 quids worth. In this case you rip out the old one, fit the new one, line everything up and problem solved.

I've replaced both regulators now and am expecting the rear one to go at some point.

thanks darmain
i will have to look on ebay
thanks again

Done two of mine with the cable kit from flea bay. It is fiddly and you need to get the tension in the cable right but is dooable. Then take all the door inners off and lub each one or if you take the window seals out you can get spray lub in on the pulleys - careful tho, the outer seals are easily distorted. For the back window you can get to the pulleys by removing the seal along the top o the door - easy job.
