Me again....

I need to pull my stereo headunit out so I can connect up the cellular mute lead - any idea how I do this? Will I need some special tools from LandRover or do 'normal' stereo extraction keys work?

Alternatively, is there some way to access the multiplug at the back of the headunit?

Finally, if I pull the plug and the power drops out from the headunit (as it will), do I need to enter some kind of unlock code into the headunit to unlock it?

thanks!

Which range rover have you got?

Yes if you disconnect the power you will need the key code.

You should download the RAVE manual off the net, it'll tell you how to take out the head unit for whichever model you've got.

Its a 2001 DHSE

I've downloaded RAVE - just not had the time to consult it yet...!

Unfortunately, I don't have any key codes.... I suppose a trip to my Stealer is in order when the V5 turns up....

Thanks

Rob

There is a very good step by step instruction with photos on how to take apart the centre console on rangerovers.net under the heading of Hevac repairs for the back lighting to the HEvac coontrols. Check this out before you do it as the RAVE manual is fairly light on the details for the dismantling.

I guess you have bought the mute lead from dashmount??

If so then to get the radio removed you will need the special flat style keys from somewhere like Halfords. To be honest, on more than one occasion when wanting to remove the radio from my Clio I just went in and asked nicely if I could borrow the tool to quickly unclip the radio and the nice staff at Halfords have just come out and done it for me all for freeeee :D I then have just driven home with the radio poking slightly out from the dash and finished up at home.

If you want to buy the keys then these are the ones...

Once the radio is out unplug and fir the mute lead. You will need the code for the radio. If it IS the dahsmount mutelead then see RangeRovers.net :: View topic - Fitting Hands Freee Microphone and look about half way down at Gavins post. This will help you in locating the box that comes with the lead. As you can see you will also need to remove the console side panel to fit it so have a quick read on the info over at RangeRovers.net on how to do it.

Good luck and let us know how you got on :)

Fantastic - as usual, loads of useful information!

I have indeed bought the cellular mute lead from Dashmount - however, I can't fit the thing yet as I don't have the card with the code for the radio on - so I can't chop the power.

I suppose I'll have to wait until my V5 comes back from Swansea, and then go down to my Stealer and pay my £10 for a new one....

You don't need to pay for the code, at least I certainly never did, nor did I have to pay for the EKA code. Don't even bring the payment issue up and hopefully you will get it for free. If they do try and charge you just try and make a fuss, you don't have the money on you, every other car ive had I could get the code free from the dealers etc etc. It takes them seconds to look it up on the computer!

Thats good to know - the Chap I spoke to yesterday said they have to send off for a new card and that it would take weeks and cost me a tenner...!

Thieving wotsits!
