I'm wanting to install a Narva 55w dual halogen lamp I have, on the back of my Disco and need some help n inspiration!

The light in question is the model #72401 in the link below:
http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/double-beam

I'm wanting to mount it behind the spare tyre so that I can flood behind the rig with light for reversing out in the bush. I will be using an ARB/Carling switch to engage/disengage the light when in reverse. Now for the questions...

1. What materials/designs has anybody used for this? (pics are great if you have them!)
2. What is the best way of running the wiring through from the outside to the inside? (I don't mind drilling holes, etc)
3. What materials and bits n pieces will I need to buy?
4. Could somebody kindly draw up a quick schematic or give clear instructions of how to wire it up?

Massive thanks for your time in advance! I'm so under the pump timewise atm to get the Disco finished, so your help is definitely appreciated! :D

first thing that springs to mind

Do not connect it to the reversing lights, that is against construction and use regs, reversing bulbs are 24 W max and no more than 2

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989

that does not stop you fitting it and having a switch on dash

I have got a switch on dash and in the back so I can turn them on or off from either location very simple circuit diagram here

change over relays operated by switches, battery feed from front run to back via 2 wires between relays

As to fitting behind wheel you may have issues with the beam pattern that that light gives out fit it higher on roof line

Cheers for your reply!

I only want to have it running when I choose (via the switch), for reversing, not as a worklight as well. I can't mount it on the roof because a roof tent's going to be residing there in the next few weeks. These lights are perfectly legal here in Australia, so there's no dramas there.

I want to do something like this:
RearWorklight-Sparewheeladdapt1.jpg

It clears the wheel and sits high enough to provide a good spread of beam for the purposes. It's a common thing to do here, but everyone runs them as a worklight as well, which is where my requirements differ (and does the wiring setup).

My understanding is that it should be wired up from the reverse switch at the gearshift? Is this right? Unfortunately your diagram is too small to see. I'm not sure whether I'd need a relay and if so, which one. :(

Any and all suggestions welcome fellas...I need to get this done asap! :)

Ok

Sorry did not know your location

If you want to use this as a reverse light, pick up a relay feed from the reverse light out of gear box, UK thats the Green / Brown one, feed that into the switch in the diagram as the supply, switch fitted in cab near driver
from other side of switch, run a wire to the rear quarter, nearest hinges, fit relay under the trimming and connect to tag 86.
The supply (tag 30)for this will need either a separate feed or picking an existing auxillliary permananet live feed, simple way would be to run a new wire from battery, but put an in line fuse near to the battery, do not run perm live wire down your truck
run a wire from tag 85 to an good earth point, (one behind the rear speaker)
Last is tag 87 to the lamp, fit lamp on spare wheel carrier, feed wire down the rubber tube into rear door, drill hole through door to outside, behind the spare wheel, fit grommet, thread wire through and up to light

The light will come on as a reversing light, but can be turned off by the switch, manual control of reversing light

20A (Min) standard relay and follow this diagram, just ignore the double lights
