Hi, Im going to be fitting a snorkel on my beloved fender this week...

I will be extending all the breathers ect but what have people done with their oil breather?? Im guessing this needs extending up with the others or is it ok in the engine bay as it blows just as much as the exhaust lol..

thanks

Ah right. Pretty sure my 300tdi is factory plumbed into the turbo to air box pipe.
I'll check tomorrow now.

One of my old cars had the oil breather venting straight out to air.

I think 300 has a better system to comply with later legislation. A lot of older engines, like 19j, have a simple rubber pipe leading to the air intake. This can lead to all kinds of problems, so a lot of people vent it to air.
As far as I know, up until about 1980 all landies and most other stuff had crankcase running open to air.

it doesnt serve any benefit ,but car manufactures have to have it that way , you could vent to atmosphere but not legal ,but who knows you have

Then if it makes no difference and the op's breather is currently vented to atmosphere, no reason why it can't be modded and plumbed into the air intake if the desire is to have a water free, sealed air system.

no as long as its not seen at mot etc

Well worth routing it via an oil catch can or suchlike if he does. Can cause a diesel runaway if you have bad crankcase pressure.
I don't think brief immersion of the breather would cause a problem anyway.

Ere ya go.

thats beautiful sprogthedog!!!

When i first got my fender my off roading friends quickly got rid of my air box as it was covered in oil.. They ended up putting a sock over a pipe going straight to the turbo, thats why ive brought a snorkel with an air filter in it...

so it goes down through the wing and around into the turbo.

I thought that when u fit a snorkel you had to get rid of the air box as it wasnt water tight?

o dear

Yes, he has done a tidy job with that, one way to go with the breather, or route it subtly into the chassis.
I don't know exactly what snorkel set up you are planning, but the standard airbox should be watertight. The rubber tit on the bottom should let water out but not in.
A sock is not adequate filtration, whatever you do install a proper air cleaner in the system somewhere.
