Hi all,

I have upgraded my 3.5 to a 3.9 and now am fitting the Edelbrock carb to give it a bit more beans.

The exhaust I have on it is the original 3.5 part - the pipes look very small - to improve performance would it be worth upgrading to something a bit bigger - any recommendations?

Cheers

It would make a difference but the cost / benefit equation may not make it worthwhile. assuming you have a 2.5inch exhaust then the headers and y piece are where you'd make gains, and head porting would make bigger gains for a similar outlay

Many thanks for that - new carbs are not yet bolted on, so probably best plan is to run it for a while and see if I get the performance I want.

Cheers

Exhausts are a system. They start with the manifolds. If these are restrictive, then apart from noise the rest of the system is unlikely to master a great deal.

Although with n/a engines you want exhaust scavenging more than flow. This will require long tube exhaust manifolds. They will still move the torque curve slightly to the right, by will promote more power across the rev range.

Thanks for the info - I've been driving it for a bit now, actually it seems to be good enough, so will probably leave it until the one it has wears out.
