I need a new rear exhaust section for my '96 D1 V8 3.9i, but not sure which I need. Some say '92 & '93 only, some '90 onwards and some up to sept '96. Is there any difference between an exhaust on a '92, a '96 and a '98?

Looks like my prop shat coupling is goosed as well. Are they as simple as they look to replace?

Still no wiser as to the exhaust, I'll just buy the cheapest and hope for the best.

With the prop shaft, just follow the instructions that can be found in the various Workshop Manuals, Forums and even on You Tube. if you have tools and mechanical experience, then simples.

With the exhaust, UK spec up to 1993MY was the 3.5 so the system may be different (positions of hangers).
Later UK systems for 96-98 are the same, the standard factory fit cat back exhaust system were one piece (cat back), so if the new back box can be replaced without cutting the pipe u already have a replacement system fitted.

The exhaust on there has a separate pipe from the mid to back box, but its this pipe and the rear back box thats gone, as in looks like a shot gun hit them and the pipe is now in two pieces. The mid box looks OK apart from where the back pipe fits it, but I'm hoping this is just a little surface rust and doesn't break when I get the hammer out.

I was going to buy this:
Exhaust Silencer - STC3717 | Discovery Series 1 | Land Rover | British Parts UK
and
Propshaft Coupling Kit - TVF100010B | Discovery Series 1, Discovery Series 2 | Land Rover | British Parts UK

Its lucky the exhaust went, because the coupling is shredded.

The exhaust look about right so does the coupling, but I wondered why u have a coupling I thought the 96MY didn't have them, because 97-98 V8s don't. Also it gives the years as 1998-99 ? there was no D1s made in 1999.
