Stud Extraction 2.25 3MB Petrol Exhaust Manifold

Cleaning up my inlet & exhaust manifolds ready to fit new gasket I noticed that two of the long interconnecting studs were half corroded at exhaust manifold end just before entering manifold cast iron.

I have replacements (574048), blowtorch & plus gas etc but was unable to get it to move without shearing off at point where it is narrowed/necked.
Thought of cutting it lower down & welding a nut just above cast to give better purchase than possible through twisting by locked nuts on opposite end.

Can cut it off, drill it out & re-tap however thought I'd ask is there an easier way to do this before I reach the point of no return & end up with scrap iron?

Have not always been successfull drilling out & re-tapping in cast before, guess helicoils are an alternative?

Prefer not want to be in situation where I find out easiest/better way after by trial & error if anyone with experience can please advise I'd appreciate it?

This and short downpipe studs (568864) do seem to be common issues on exhaust manifolds (guess 40+ years of corrosion & heat cycling takes it's toll). If I do it now hopefully it will not fail at worst possible time!

Look forwards to suggestions (buy a new one is my last option)!
