Hi, looking for a bit of help! My 4.6 P38 is still appears to have a misfire/pinking which is most noticable when revved hard from 3k upwards, I've changed plugs and leads on spec and put some lead testers between leads and plugs to check out the coil pack. All of the testers are illuminating as you'd expect and all with the same intensity, so the ignition side all seems fine.

Now, as I rev the car there is a fairly load squeeling sound from the area of the driverside bank of cylinders which tends to reduce slightly as the engine gets hot (loud enought to be heard inside the car). I think there may be either a leak from the exhaust manifold gasket, or the manifold itself has split.

Does the description of the noise sound like it could be a manifold problem, and could that be the cause of my misfire/pinking???

Any help would be greatly recieved, as much as I like the car I seem to be spending far to much time under it rather than in it!! :(

Get a length of hose stick one end in your ear and trace it, works a treat so it does.

I've never heard an exhaust make a squealing sound!

My n/s manifold has a crack in it and it just makes the car sound clattery under load. I'll get round ro replacing it one of these days.

Fairly common problem is cracks in the manifold...especially the drivers (RH) side. The solid pipework can be welded with care...be careful not to distort it with the heat, it's stainless steel.
Mine had a crack at the flex connection and sounded like a wheezing pensioner..bit like myself!!!:smokin:
