Hey guys,
When I got my Freelander I had to replace the exhaust manifold, which was sheared in two. The new one seems to be doing fine but I've been hearing a ticky blowing sound since. I took the manifold off again tonight and as I expected there were dirty great soot leak marks on the gasket and manifold face. So this is the problem. I did my best to cleans some of the old gunk away from the vents in the head and cleaned up the soot. I refitted it no problem but the blowing, though now much quieter, is still there.
I used an aftermarket manifold and gasket but am starting to wonder whether I shouldn't have. In the intructions for the new manifold it said that I shouldn't use any joint compound between the manifold and the block. So should I just get a genuine LR gasket and replace it? Or is there another option?
Will.
