It would appear that there is a hairline crack in the exhaust manifold. I was wondering what my options are as due to the fitting of LPG system and the exhaust emmissions control bits and bobs as fitted to the last of the 4.0 V8's, it is not that easy to remove.

Might do . I need to find a land rover specialist in the North West who also knows about LPG conversions. Reckon they would be less fearful of moving things in order to get manifold out. Any one know what sort of price these things are ?

find a top class welder. they could weld it in situ. given enough room to do it.
a lot cheaper than removal and replacement.

Good plan but costly.
In practical terms welding a cast iron manifold (or anything else cast iron) is extremely difficult, expensive, and more or less impossible without taking the manifold off the car. The welder would probably say "No Guarantees ...", so swap the manifold, or leave it where it is if it isn't a fire risk or noisy. Wrapping it with glass-tape and wire (easy to get stuff) would cover it up!

It would have had to come off for welding so might as well go new. About £85 plus vat for part. As vehicle is gas conversion, I want to make sure everythig is spot on to try and get the best mpg possible.

its not that hard to weld cast iron. you need a stick welder, some cast rods and a means of heating the manifold up, which is the hard bit.
when i did a pontiac manifold some years back i used me mums oven to heat it up prior to welding. it worked fine till a swapped engine a couple of years later.
but as landy manifolds are easier to get hold of yer probelly best just to swap it.

Manifold now replaced. They collecte the vehicle and returned it the following day. Had an oil change at the same time and the plugs checked following reports that some of them where cross threaded ( by a local garge who put new ones in for me a couple of weeks ago ).
Total bill inc VAT £395. Must admit that exhaust maifold is a pig to get at on Disco 11 4.0 lt ( american emissions spec ) and would have taken a fair amount of time.

slob, surely drive hard for a while to get manifold hot, i appreciate it wont be hot enough.... so get the blow torch out! surround meltables with old bathroom tiles??????
