Hi,

I'm fairly new on here and to the world of Land Rover having bought our first in March this year.

We live in Sheffield but bought a 2000 Freelander Turbo Deisel from a garage in Tintwhistle, Manchester, with admittedly very little experience of the model.

To cut a long story short (ish), we very quickly realised that our new purchase was not quite as it should be as we were struggling to go up inclines faster than 25-30mph it just had no power at all, our fears were finally confirmed when we went to Wales for the weekend and struggled to go over 50mph on the motorway, being overtaken by caravans in your new pride and joy is no laughing matter:eek: .

This is what brought me to this great forum, trying to find out what was wrong. Our immediate fear was the turbo was shot and we would be looking at big money, or a dispute with the dealer we bought it from.

We took the car back to Manchester for investigation and repair as they have their own service department, we finally got it back after 5 weeks, supposedly repaired, the alleged problem being the MAF Airflow Sensor which had been changed.

The car was no better!!!!

We then took matters into our own hands and found a garage specialising in Land Rovers called Ridgeways in Rotherham and booked it in for diagnostic tests, if only to get written proof that we weren't imagining things.

The bloke at Ridgeways - Steve - is a great bloke - certainly knows his stuff and all his staff have 20-30 years experience in this field.

The service at Ridgeways was excellent, Steve was sympathetic to our position, liaised directly with the dealers in Manchester with his findings, and in no time at all, confirmed the turbo was working ok but we had a severe wiring problem.

It seemed a previous DIY repair on the wiring was an absolute mess and had caused burnt out wires to the ECU causing the lack of power.

We collected the car yesterday and WOW it was like driving a different car and so enjoyable . We can finally start to appreciate the Freelander and it's true capabilities thanks to Ridgeways.

Cost wise, you may be wondering how much they charge, well as I am a newbie I'm not familiar with the going rates for land Rover repairs, but we thought Ridgeways were very reasonable at £40 an hour, especially when our problem was diagnosed and repaired in less than 5 hours, bearing in mind it went back to the dealers for 5 weeks and came back no better.

Funnily enough, it seems we weren't the only ones impresed with Ridgeways as the dealer in Manchester has apparently booked one of their cars in for a fault they can not repair themselves.

I hope by posting this someone else may benefit from our experience.

Tracie :)
