The Disco went for the MOT yesterday. It passed but with advisories on the brake lines corroding and slight play in the rear wheel bearings. All good really as I knew about the brake lines already.

Whilst there I also got an oil and filter change done and asked them to replace a core plug, do a coolant system flush and refill, and fit a new thermostat that I had already bought. I was going to do all these myself originally but I dont really have the time at the moment and was nervous about the core plug situation.

They estimated 3 hours for the core plug replacement but we agreed that if while they had the engine lifted / dropped a little they saw another plug that was looking like it was on its way out then they would replace that too. It took a half hour extra to fit a second plug they found to be leaking slightly, but now they are done.

Then the coolant system was flushed out and they went to replace the thermostat (asked them to do this as a cheap little extra check to see if it would get the heating working if existing one was sticky), only to find that there wasn't a thermostat in there  Why would the precious owner remove it?

Got the motor back now and the guy at the garage said it was a really nice runner and a good old Disco really, which was pleasing to hear. And now the heating in the car works really nice. Only problem then was that half a mile down the road the bonnet released. It was still on the little latch but bouncing about. Back to the garage I went and we looked it over. for some reason there was part of a cable tie in bonnet pin where the spring is, just slightly holding the spring up a little. But it just wouldn't shut for some reason. I can only guess the opening and closing of the bonnet while in the garage had altered the position of the cable tie and caused it not to close. Why would it be in there? We took it out and the bonnet closed fine. Pulled the release cable and opened fine, then closed fine. Tried one last time, pulled the release cable......SNAP..... bugger!!!

So now its back to the garage next week when a new bonnet release cable has come in to stock. For now I just have to hope nothing goes wrong where I need to open the bonnet
